No, neither do your parents or anyone else have to do anything like that.
But, in States with Good Samaritan Laws, a witness would have to render aid if you needed it for some life threatening condition - in this case, were you flagging them down in the middle of a desert or other out-of-the-way place where it could be reasonably presumed that you were in a dangerous place by yourself.

Nope. Only if your in danger and only far enough to insure you are no longer in danger.
Of course, if you flag one down just for a ride, you might just find yourself getting a ride but not the destination you want!
Hope this helps!

I wish they would - I quite often need a ride home after a saturday night out on the town...I seem to spend all my taxi money on kebabs!

ok, take it from a police officer.
yes, i have given rides to people. but .. i first pat them down, run their names for warrants .. (for the sake of not transporting futigives to a location where a murder victim is), and consideration of the situation..
now.. do we have to ? no.. there is not law that mandantes us to be taxi cabs..

Nope, well maybe if you want to go to jail under suspicion. Under certian circumstances, someone chasing you, a lost child, ect. But not just because you are tired of walking.

No, they do not. I bet a lot of cops would just arrest you- hitchhiking is against the law, you know.
Art V proves my point- he is a typical cop- insinuating that he would take you to jail if you question his authority.

No of course not. What grade is your friend in?
Of course if you tell me I have to, then I will be inclined to find a reason to give you a ride, but it won't be to where you wanted to go.
