I have a friend who is a police officer and he works ALL THE TIME. I mean he works on his days off he gets like 4 hours of sleep I swear. He does it to get extra cash but it can not be healthy. Tuesday night he worked from 3pm to 3am and he had to get up early to be at work by 6:30. I have told him he should stop working so much but he doesn't listen. Does anyother officer do this?

To the guy that said "It's called retirement" he is 25 and has been a cop for 2 years I doubt he is going to retire anytime soon.

Yes because it is good money. It's not an easy job being a police officer. All the reports you have to write and all the crap you have to put up with. On the other side its fun and gets your heart pumping with action. Over time pay here for a cop is 45.00 an hour. They work 4 days 10 hours shift and have three days off. Some cops work 6 days, that means 20 hours over time plus 4,250.00 a month how much is that all together? That's good money, even for a single police officer like me.

IT IS CALLED RETIREMENT AND LIVING THE LIFE YOU WANT TO LIVE.
RETIREMENT: USUALLY THE LAST THREE YEARS OF YOUR LAST TEN ARE WHAT MAKES UP YOUR RETIREMENT.
IF YOU WANT TO MAKE SAY $1800 A MONTH WHEN YOU RETIRE, AND WORK NO OVERTIME THAT IS UP TO YOU.
IF YOU WANT TO DOUBLE YOUR RETIREMENT YOU DOUBLE YOUR SHIFTS.
INSTEAD OF 1800 AMONTH I NOW DRAW $2,100 AND WHEN OR IF I DIE MY SPOUSE GETS THE SAME AMOUNT TILL SHE DIES. BOTH 60?? ALSO GET A COLA INCREASE EVERY YEAR.PLUS MEDICAL AND DENTAL UNTIL 65 MEDICARE MEDICADE.
LIVING A LIFE STYLE:
IF YOU WANT MONEY AND THE WIFE TO BE AT HOME WITH KIDS YOU AHVE TO GET THE MONEY FROM SOME PLACE.
THE DEPARTMENT LOVES TO HAVE YOU WORK BECAUSE YOU ARE EXPERIENCED AND KNOW THE JOB. AT $26 AND HOUR X 1.5 FOR O/T= $39.00 OR $312 INSTEAD OF 208 PER SHIFT.
I CAN MAKE MORE IN OVERTIME THEN I DO A NORMAL CHECK. PLUS I GET A NORMAL CHECK.

Well, some officers do it for his reason, money, others however do it just because they feel they're obligated to "serve and protect". I find many officers are workaholics, same with doctors (but that's probably because their on-call all the time).

you call dining at the donut shop work, or sitting in your car looking for speeders work, as a matter of fact he is probably sleeping on the job.
