Is it hard to move with 2 80lbs. dogs? What are the chances of me being sent to a cutter directly out of boot camp if I want to be a Yeoman or Marine Science Technician? I am a married mother of one joining the Coast Guard in January. Thank you for your responses!

Depending on where you get stationed it could be a serious problem with the dogs. If you go overseas or to Hawaii you might not be able to bring the pooches. After boot camp you will go to school and from your school you will get stationed on a ship or shore. It is usually the luck of the draw so you want to be top of your class to get the best drawing position.

Are you already trying NOT to go to sea before you even join the Coast Guard? You may very well be assigned to a cutter out of boot. Being married, being a mother, having a pet - all irrelevant factors in what type of duty station you are ordered to. The previous responders are correct that 2 dogs can be a real problem for government housing assignment. 1 dog, 1 cat is more realistic but many times you can have no pets. Chances are pretty good that you won't be able to afford to live on the economy when you first get out of boot camp. Even if you don't get a ship out of boot, you still could get one out of YN 'A' school.

You can be sent anywhere as a Yeoman. My husband got to pick what area he wanted to be stationed but it wasn't a promise. If you live in military housing they will have pet restrictions. Most apartments do also. As for joining thank you! You will have to go to "A" School before being assigned to your permanent duty station. Hope this helps.

any costs incurred with regards to the animals will NOT be reimbursed. Additionally, there may be limits placed as far as housing is concerned.. whether pets are allowed, and if they are aggressive breeds, they will most likely NOT be allowed in MFH. If that is the case, you will be forced to find a place in town, and that can be just as difficult if not more so.

you will go to School first, and be assigned to a permanent duty station.
