im looking to get a conceal carry permit in TX do i need to get to the sheriffs?

i currently dont live in texas but its my home of residence and ill be back there, is there anything i can do to start working on my permit so i can get it when i go back?

HOME OF RESIDENCE IS ONLY GOOD IF YOU HAVE LIVED IN AN AREA FOR MORE THEN 6 MONTHS, EXCEPT MILITARY. THEIR RESIDENCE IS THE STATE THEY CHOOSE TO RESIDE IN.
