I fired my Colt .357 Magnum Python and what happened was sort of like a small firecracker... when i opened the cylinder i could see that the bullet was stuck right at the beginning of the barrel (close to the trigger). why did this happen and how can i get it out? thank you for your help.

It's called a squib, and what happened was most likely the manufacturer only loaded a primer and no powder in the casing. How you get it out is to GENTLY tap it out using a cleaning rod. Normally you wouldn't tap towards the cylinder, but since the bullet is just barely into the rifling of the barrel it shouldn't damage the barrel at all. If the bullet was stuck halfway down the barrel, you'd tap it out towards the muzzle end to ensure you don't damage the rifling.

It is caused, in all probability, by an underpowered round. Get a piece of woodem dowel and use that to drive it out from the front of the barrel to the rear [with the cylinder open].

Take a pencil or dowel wood rod & place it in the end of the barrel & tap lightly with a plastic or wood hammer & it will pop out of the chamber & into the cylinder. It happened to me one time.* Were you shooting reloads? I was when it happened to me.*

do you reload ammo or use reloaded ammo ? what happened was you encountered a 'squib' or cartridge with little or no powder in it...all that fired was the primer. If you feel that you can't push the round back out of the barrel yourself, a trip to your friendly gunsmith will set you straight.
