That's what I'm starting to realize. I sorry if this question has been asked before, but I am fairly new. Have any of you realized this too? It seems my generation isn't falling into the delusion many people have, and I'm proud to be a part of that.

Low Rain -- Hey, did I f*cking say it was the truth? I said it feels like it. Way to overreact to everything. Atheists are currently in the few but that will change, and yes it is a delusion.

By the way, yes, I do have something to back it up with.

Someone mentioned the website being biased, and I have to agree..it probably is, but that doesn't necessarily mean it shouldn't be used at all. It made me a little skeptic too, but if people do their own individual research they'll find other things.

Great news, good website you provided. I'm a little skeptical of the website because it is biased, but even if it's not a dramatic increase I'll take it.
Religions worked before because you weren't allowed to challenge them. A little more than 2000 years ago, people were only allowed to believe in Zeus and Hermes and such. And if you didn't, you were put to death. Then Christianity took over, and if continued to believe in Zeus, you were put to death.
Since then, the punishment has been much less harsh. Hundreds of years ago, you only had to find a new country if you wanted to believe whatever you want. Anyways, because there are no more threats, we can question what doesn't make sense to us. Because we've had to go through hundreds of years of not being allowed to think, it's harder for people to think again. Christians are an example of this. I think eventually they'll catch on too, and the world we be a better place. But yes, atheism is definitely on the rise.

Well there may be a reason why. Anyone that was raised in older generations are more likely to have parents with old fashioned values and more deeply religious than the younger. Also now there is the internet, which hasn't even been around more than 20 years, that gives the younger generation an advantage in learning about different religions and opinions, compared to the older generations who had to learn other opinions and ways of thinking from books only and the library is limited.
Are you referring to the 'delusion' of the younger generation? Because if you are, I don't think delusion is the word for it. You have to realize that you don't just become an atheist overnight. It takes time to thoroughly read and think to gain an atheist perspective and now with more resources available then ever, it only makes sense that the internet will increase the intelligence of all generations now and the ones to come.
Delusion: a false belief or opinion.
So you don't think holding a belief of something you've never seen, heard, had any proof of just faith, and have only been told is true by OTHER people your whole life isn't delusional?
But you think that people that study science, other religions, and try to base their way of thinking on fact and not faith are?

Got a statistic to back that up?
And no, it's not a delusion. No more than being christian is.
what more do you want? Atheists make up a SMALL percentage of the world population, with Christianity in the lead.
EDIT, so you are realizing something that isn't actually true? That doesn't make any sense. That article says nothing about an atheist percentage, it just says people are growing more SKEPTICAL about Christianity. There is a difference.

I do not know.
I would want to see the statistics before I made such a claim.
The one I believe that there is statistical support for is that fundamentalism increases as education level decreases, and atheism increases as education level increases.
Edit.
I think Rain may be grabbing the wrong end of the stick there.
Meanwhile non-religious people are #3, close behind Islam and about half as many as Christians.

The last i read about 70% of the worlds population are atheist. There is no Deity (god) in Buddhism. In other words they are theists. about 10% Christian, 10% Jewish, 10% Muslim. That was about 4 years ago. There is a small % of others but the % is not exact for any of the stats.

I feel that too. Personally im 17 and I'm an ex-muslim. I use to pray five times a day, every day, until I questioned religion in general. As humans gain more knowledge and rely more on science, religion is bound to fall apart.

Our generation is going to be the next revolution in the world. We are learning that these wars we see, and this systematic goverment isn't working. People are sick and tired of this, and they are re-organizing and this scares the **** out of all religious bodies. Run in fear and let the crusades karma come right back on you!

I sure hope so. Too much brainwashing is going on around the world and the young have to be aware of that.

i think it is because the younger generation is more willing to step away from what their parents think and try thinking for themselves. the younger generation of today is starting to question things. if they think something doesn't make alot of sense, they are more willing to stand up and say "hey, why is this so, because it certainly doesn't make sense to me.
