"I don't want a relationship right now..."

Does this actually mean "with you" or does he simply not want one?

He simply doesn't want one...

It could mean either, I guess. My boyfriend of almost two years just broke my heart when he dropped this line. Of course a part of me would like to believe that he means that he doesn't want one at all right now, but the truth of the matter is simply this....if a guy wants to really be with you, then nothing can stop him from doing so. Therefore, he may have just come to the realization he doesn't want a relationship WITH YOU anymore, but he will be searching for someone else that he wants one with. I know it sucks to hear, (believe me...I know!) but it's the truth.

The answer depends on the guy, as well as the context.

If the guy has just gotten out of a long-term relationship, then he may not be looking to start one of these again. In this case, you will just have to be patient, and persistent with him. Remember that there are many forms of a relationship, and you can certainly be his friend until he is ready to date again (unless he tells you to buzz off, of course). This is slightly more likely if the guy is older and/or more mature.

The other possibility is that the guy isn't all that interested in you, and is trying to let you down gently. This is slightly more likely if the guy is young, or immature. If he appears to have his heart set on another girl, then that's another hint that this may be the case.

He simply does not want one. He probably has a lot to do at work or wants to concentrate on something else. He likes you a lot but knows he can't have a relationship.

Well if your two are seeing each other now, then wait and see what happens. Things change over time. It could also mean that he does not want one with you so you need to be frank with him and ask him outright to put your mind at ease.

He just said this to u in a polite manner "I don't think I want it with YOU.You are not my type. Please move on." However harsh it may sound to you but I bet it meant I'M NOT INTERESTED!.

On second thoughts he isn't really ready or capable for having one now.

it really depends on the guy. a lot of the time it might be an excuse to not date you, but it might just be that he doesn't want a relationship, it depends on the personality of the guy

This usually means that he doesn't want it with you.. either because he just doesn't want to or that he doesn't have an excuse
