Why to pastors and the likes always preach about how they are saved. Surely everyone in the church is saved or they wouldn't be there?

Surely not!

You find all sorts of people in Church and for as many reasons. I know of a man who lost his wife and lost his will to go on. He comes into the church building and sits there. He drinks and squanders his money.

There are saved people with similar problems. You see, being saved does not eliminate our pains and frustrations. We still need deliverance and in lots of churches, people are left to themselves and preached to (as you say) but they are still hung up on their pain and problems. They keep going, hoping for some kind of relief.

Don't let the 'saved' part fool you. We need more than that to make it through the daily grind.

Actually, some of the people are not "saved" at church, and some are newbies and need other education.

I agree that we should preach to the "unsaved" and many don't go to church. But the problem is, how do you get the message across to them, and where ? And do they even want to listen?

We need both, to be educated in church on a regular basis, otherwise you'll backslide, then find a way to reach out to the "unsaved" in new and creative ways without being "preachy".

We go to church to learn more about the Word. Some are not saved, may only be checking it out, or they could just be there to ridicule. Not all pastors are the stereotype you'll see on TV. In fact, most of them are people that have a gift of teaching, and they just want ot help others understand and become stronger in God.

That is an example of how churches don't grow in their walks with the Lord. Pastors, priests and the like should teach the flock how to lead holy lives.

No, that's not always the case. I can't recall a single time, at the church that I went to, when there wasn't at least ONE person, who came to the saving knowledge of Christ!

Just because someone goes to church does not mean they are saved.

There's a big political and social aspect to church services. It's reinforcing your membership in a group, and getting people to think and work together. I think the religious aspect of weekly services is really fairly limited in most cases.

you are sooo right . the same people week after week come out to hear the word and no one ever brings in any one new. I think some congregations miss the point. It is nice to get together with other Christians but we must proselytize

Not true. Not everybody who goes to church is saved. That would be wonderful if they were!

You'd be suprised to find how many people go to church just for the "points" -- which, just like Yahoo Answers, is worth nothing.
