I am ill with a bad back. Last night I was awake from 3am onwards and almost crying through lkack of sleep and the pain and my 3 month old kitten came and cuddled up to my head, nuzzled my face and even put her cheek against mine as if drying tears, then as I fell asleep again she put her paw in my hand. All day today she has been very calm and cuddly when she is usualy hyper and playful and mischievious, she walks over to me on the bed looking all concerned and nuzzling me. I've heard that cats understand when their owners are ill but is this true or is my cat just weird?

If you give a cat a lot of love, it will nearly always care for you. My Marmaduke would always warn me if I was heading for a diabetic hypo, and would always be there to comfort me. Matilda knew I was upset when he died, and there have been other times too, she always jumps on me to cuddle me . She was a wild feral I fed for 4 years before I could tame her. Whoever would have thought she would show such empathy? Worthington has sat with my daughter for hours when she was ill, never venturing out, and is concerned if I am not well. Your cat is not weird, just an understanding little soul.

Oh believe me, they know. My old cat (dead now) used to do the same. I don't know HOW they know, but they do. My common old ginger tom was priceless. When he was ill I used to sit up with him all night - when I was ill, he used to sleep on my bed and purr and nuzzle ...
I love cats. But the old boy was put to sleep this year aged 21 and so far I haven't got another one. I know that if I went to a rescue centre I would buy every single cat and bring them all home. And I have a wife and 4 children, so cats are not a substitute for babies!
Cats do care for you, and I miss my ginger tom like crazy.

Yeah all cats are like that. It's great isn't it? They always know when their humans are upset or under the weather. Mine are usually hyper too but they can sense when I'm not feeling good and it's all cuddles from there.

My 14 year old female cat died of breast cancer but when she was alive and I was ill, she would follow me everywhere and when I went to bed she would come with me and she would still be there when I woke up. And before she died, she was getting ill and I took great care of her. Now, my 3 other cats, when I am sad and I cry, they all come up to me to try and comfort me. Cats are really intelligent and they do know how to love!

I believe it's true and you're lucky! The two I have now are cold-hearted, but my last cat Martha would sometimes seem to sense if I was sad. She didn't do anything THAT nice, though.

One thing she would always do is bit my ankles if I yelled at my husband. What a daddy's girl! LOL

Cats can sense things especially when something is wrong. They can mostly sense these things when people are ill, pregnant or just sad/angry. It's lovely to have a cat like this and i know how it feels as it cheers me up a lot!

Hi i dont think theres any facts on that but i believe myself that cats can tell for sure what the owner is feeling like when you get mad at your cat it knows your mad so i think when your ill your cat knows too.

All the kittens I've had were like this at this age. Caring, loving, tender when you are sick. Your cat is not unique. It will be unique if she continues to be like this in 3 years, or even in 1 year really. My adult cats now couldn't care less what I do. They are very tender and loving when THEY need it.

No, your cat is not weird at all. I've owned cats all of my life, and they always seem to know when I am hurting or upset, and they will do whatever they can to make me feel better. It's very sweet and comforting. :)
