As a correctional officer I love it. Like the previous said it WILL and DOES change your outlook on the world. There is a certian kind of person that can do law enforcement work, as there are certian kinds of people that can be in the medical fields. You have to be able turn yourself on and off when you enter those gates and leave them.

IF THE PAY SUCKS THEN WHY DO WE DO IT. LAST YEAR I MADE $78,000 WITH O/T OF 1000 HOURS.

SINCE NOBODY ELSE WANTS TO IT, IT BECOMES A JOB WITH SECURITY. I ALWAYS TOLD EVERYONE TO GO TO WAL MART OR MC DONALD'S.

42 YEARS IN POLICE WORK-18 COUNTY JAILS--19 STATE PRISON

YOUR CHANCES OF GETTING KILLED ARE WORSE BY DRIVING IN SAN DIEGO.

TOWNS WHERE PRISONS ARE. THEY ARE VERY SUPPORTIVE OF THE PRISON BECAUSE IT GIVES THEM AN ECONOMY BASE.
IN 19 YEARS AT THE ALABAMA PRISON ONE OF 39 I SAW A NEW COMMUNITY GROW UP FROM DUST. A WAL MART, K MART, SUPER SHOPPING CENTERS, MALLS ETC. COMMUNITY AROUND A PRISON WILL BE AT THE GATES WITH SHOTGUNS AND RIFLES TO MAKE SURE NO ONE GETS OUT WHEN AND IF THERE IS A RIOT.
SAN DIEGO IS A MILD AREA NOT LIKE LA--GO FOR IT I JUST RETIRED AND MISS THE PLACE SO NOW I GO BACK 20HOURS A WEEK BECAUSE THEY CANNOT FIND ENOUGH OFFICERS TO FILL OUR RETIRING ASSESS HAHAHAHAHA.

Consider this, all an inmate has to do is stick you with a needle just once, and your life is over.

Don't do it. The pay sucks, the job is dangerous, and you might as well be doing time yourself for 40 hours per week.

Don't do it!! The job seriously effects how you look at the world and the people in it. The inmates are not good people to spend most of your life with.
