I know this sounds crazy but it's really a great gift. My sister gave me one last year for my birthday and I thought she was nuts but it turns out I use it quite often. It's an electric egg boiler. Weird huh? You put a little water in, put the eggs in, push the button and in 20 minutes you have perfectly boiled eggs. It's only $20.00 at Target. I use mine 3 or more times a week to make eggs for salads, breakfast, sandwiches etc....

You didn't say how low your budget is. One gift we appreciated was a book of movie tickets. Or...you could just do a basket with microwave popcorn and candy with a gift cert for a couple of movies to a rental place. I always think a vase or a piece of pottery is a nice gift, it's the kind of thing you don't buy for yourself but is nice to have. Picking something low on the registry is also quite acceptable. Another thought is to take your camera to the wedding/reception and take some pictures. Give them the gift of another angle/different people the photographer didn't get. You could print or get developed the photos and tie them with a bow or pick a few to put in a collage frame.

If they registered anywhere, go check out their registry. If not give them something they can use as a couple. It is super easy to make a gift basket and does not have to be expensive at all. First find a pretty container and fill it with items such as candles, massage oil, chocolates, bath salts things like that. They will appreciate that you spent time making a personalized gift and you will not break the bank.

A good bottle of wine is less than $30
Barring that, a gift card to Target or BedBathBeyond is whatever you can afford.
Do you have a talent - like cake decorating or crochet or something like that - e.g. I play the violin - and have played for friends wedding ceremonies before. Great gift - and they really appreciate it.
Maybe you can do a good "party mix" on a couple of CDs so they can have great music at the party - and then give it to them as your gift. Great memories.

A piece of serving ware for entertaining like a chip & dip set is always a good gift. The price range of these can fit any budget. Same goes for serving trays and other pieces used for entertaining. Maybe add a special recipe for a dip or other party recipe with the serving piece for it.

if they are having a photographer still-i would get them a nice frame and a bottle of wine. if you just found out, that to me is rude to expect a gift. a nice frame is a gift that will certainly be used or even an album to store their pictures.
If you want to get them something else some other suggestions are: a gift cert (if they registered, get it for that store), do they have plans for a honey moon? is so get them an american express gift card or travelers check to take along.

Go to an antique mall and find something small, unique, and beautiful. There will be one-of-a-kind things for half the cost of new.
Look for some well-kept linens - napkins, cocktail napkins, tea towels, etc.

Buy a cookbook, such as one that focuses on cooking for two or newlywed cookbook. Tie on some heart-shaped cookie cutters and you have a practical, yet cute, (and affordable) gift.
