I'm planning a trip from London to New York for some shopping. What would be better in terms of discounts? After or before christmas? I want to buy a laptop and some other electronics. Your help would be greatly appreciated, especially if you're from New York.. ;)

hi, well i would say if u r looking for a great big discount on a laptop then it would be closer to christmas to get a better deal on a laptop. also u would still get to see the city of new york fully decorated for the holidays before christmas & for new years eve too. then u would be able to get alot of discounted gifts for next year. they say the day after thanksgiving is the biggest sales day for christmas shopping too! so around the holidays from thanksgiving day to christmas eve & after new years day would be my answer & i live on cape cod in mass. bb nobrethequeen

I dont know much about the discounts. I know that everything goes on sale after the holidays, however, I do know about the crowds.

My husband is from New York and we go up every year around Christmas, its always VERY crowded......so very crowded.

So, my suggestion, avoid the city between the times of just before Christmas until the New Year.

However, if you do go during the holiday time and enjoy christmas lights, Dyker Heights in Brooklyn always put on a great show, my husband takes me there every year.

Before Christmas would be good, but maybe not those few days just before the 25th.
Just when you get to town buy a copy of the village Voice and another city paper and look through ads.
You can really almost always find a bargain in NY, but check the box and make sure the batteries, cords, and all that's supposed to be in the box is in the box before you leave the store. I don't recommend extended warranties. They get commission for selling them and sometimes it's a big runaround when you need service, plus you'llbe in London., so say NO to extended warranty offers.

There are alot of discounts right after Thanksgiving (Thanksgiving sales) and after Christmas and New Year's eve.
during christmas everything will be expensive... so come right after christmas and stay for the new year's eve or come right after Thanksgiving.
you can find laptops here for $500 US dollars!

After Christmas because everyone will be on there way home you might hit traffic going up there but ones you get there you'll be fine.

prices are already pretty good, but if i had to choose, i'd come *after* christmas. that's when people are returning things they don't want, and retailers might lower prices even more to keep inventories from overflowing.

I would say the day after thanksgiving. That is when you can catch those big sales. Good luck!
