That's called bibliomancy, divination by opening a book to a random page. It's a form of fortune-telling.

I was forced to read the Bible as a child and I would often come across some sexual reference, or some verse where god was wielding evil spirits, or some verse of evil.

YES!
Once before becoming a Christian I was asking God a question. I couldn't find it and I just prayed and opened the bible and there it was! I was so shocked I almost dropped it!

Yes, it said if a girl is raped in the streets and doesn't scream loud enough to be heard she is to be stoned to death. I pondered on it for awhile and it still didn't seem any less twisted.
