Has anyone here ever been bitten by a spider? It's like my worst nightmare but luckily I live in England where it's too cold for evil spiders! That's the only good thing about the dodgy weather here.......

I have been bitten by a BLACK WIDOW twice. It hurt . It felt like I had the flu, sick and weak for a night. But because of my body weight it would not kill me. A child or small person might not fare as well. I don't recommend it. In Australia they are supposed to have spiders that can BITE THROUGH leather shoes! yikes! pah

Clean the site of the spider bite well with soap and water. Apply a cool compress over the spider bite location. Aspirin or acetaminophen (Tylenol, others) may be used to relieve minor signs and symptoms in adults. Don't give aspirin to children. Give children acetaminophen instead. Treatment in a medical facility may be necessary for children under 6 years old and for adults with severe signs and symptoms.

If bitten by a brown recluse or black widow spider:

If possible, make a positive identification. If the spider bite is on an arm or a leg, tie a snug bandage above the bite to help slow or halt the venom's spread. Ensure that the bandage is not so tight as to cut off circulation in the arm or the leg.
Use a cold cloth at the spider bite location. Apply a cloth dampened with cold water or filled with ice.

Seek immediate medical attention. Treatment for the bite of a black widow may require an anti-venom medication. Doctors may treat a brown recluse spider bite with corticosteroids.

It is very, very rare to get bit by a spider. Here in the states, there are only a couple that are "dangerous". Black widows and brown recluse.
Having worked in the pest control industry for years, I can't tell you how many times i've responded to a call of "poisoness spiders everywhere". Of course it never really is. Spiders are extremely helpful in indicating where you have an infestation of bugs, lol. Since spiders eat bugs (not people), the are only present where you have a large bug population of some type that the spiders are controlling for you.
While n the military, I was diagnosed numerous times with spider bites on my legs, just above sock level. They were just aggrivated hair folocules, but then, as now, unidentified bites are usually indentified by medical personal as "spider bites", when factuallly, if a spider bites you, which is rare, it is so obvious as to not be questioned at all.

Most spider bites hurt for a short while, and can be easily treated with ammonia. I'm not sure English is too cold for evil spiders; brown recluse and black widows do quite well in the mid-Atlantic states, whose winters are more severe than those in many parts of England. St. Patrick may have removed the snakes from Ireland, but I don't know who removed the spiders from England. Eh?

All spiders are venomous, it's just that most don't have venom strong enough to kill humans. Some do of course, but you apparently think because you are in England, you are safe from those. You are not. For instance, the Brown Recluse spider lives most commonly in stables, but can also be found hiding in garages, basements, etc. I suggest you do some research on spiders here on the Web.

my brother was bitten by a brown recluse. rlly gross btw. its poison rots away the flesh and meat around the bite. he had to go into surgery to get rid of all the infected tissue and now he has a hole in his leg about the size of a nickel but if not taken care of it can eat away much bigger portions and lead to gange green.
