I had a molar puled on monday (#31) It was quite a long, hard process for her to even get the tooth out. It took over 2 hours. I do have stitches. I have been eating soft, mostly non-chewable foods, I do not smoke, I have been taking the ibuprofen (2x200mg) every fours hours along with the pain meds they prescribed (and antibiotics) If I go more than 5 or 6 hours without the pain meds, my mouth KILLS me. It's worse when I talk alot, or eat a soft food that requires some chewing motion. I'm still quite swollen inside and have a 'knot' of swelling on my jaw bone that is very painful to the touch. And I feel like I can't open my mouth very far.

Is this normal?

I do have an appointment to go back in today at 1:30. I was just curious if this was taking longer than normal to heal and be comfortable.

Thank- I went to the dentist and they said it's healing normally considering what a difficult extraction it was. They removed the stitches too.

It sounds like everything is progressing okay for you. I hate to say this but when I had my difficult abscessed and impacted wisdom teeth removed it took almost a month of excrutiating pain to heal, even on antibiotics. Good luck to you, and hang in there. That's why they gave you pain killers!

Clove oil works wonders, and makes your breath smell great! And swish the warm salt water around your mouth several times daily until all healed. You may have developed an infection, get that checked immediately! My dad's infection almost killed him!

if it took over 2 hours i would say that is pretty normal. if you has stitches even more so. don't worry about it. it should be better in no time. take advil instead of ibuprofen and see if that helps
good luck

YOU PROBABLY GOT A DRY SOCKET. A MOLAR, EVEN WITH A SURGICAL EXTRACTION, SHOULD TAKE NO LONGER THAN 30 MINUTES.
