I just purchased an MRI Lone Eagle handgun in 444 Marlin, and I'm wondering what kind of energy and velocity I will really be getting. It is a rotary breech, so there is no gas loss like a revolver.

They say barrel length is 14", but I think that is with chamber included. So, we'll say it has a 12" barrel.

I'll be shooting Hornady Leverevolution ammo, which is a 265gr at a claimed 2325fps from a rifle barrel, I assume of 24".

At half that barrel length, what sort of velocity do you think I will really achieve with this pistol? I know I really need to shoot through a chronograph, but I am just curious right now since I do not have it in hand.

Thanks.

You must feel the need to punish yourself for some bad karma in a past life.........I agree with Boker as far as his statement about losing 1/2 of the velocity.....I also have fired a 444 Marlin T/C. I found it to be incredibly "clunky" downright abusive recoil, and a total displeasure to shoot. I have no desire to ever shoot one again. This is one of those weapons considered to be beyond all logic and understanding, as far as why anyone would want one in the first place. I respect your right to own one just as strongly but again your logic for even wanting one escapes me.......

You'll lose a little less than half the velocity, but with such a heavy grain weight, still travelling well over the sonic threshold you won't really notice a difference in game stopping ability unless you're after dangerous game.

This is where you use the buddy system; you carry it and let your buddy actually shoot it. A lot less painful for you.
