I believe a willing sacrifice would accomplish something through their death. A suicide just ends a life. No actual benefit.

I imagine that the "willing sacrifice" would, all things being equal, rather keep on living, but they are willing to sacrifice themselves for what they believe in. I'll differentiate this from people such as suicide bombers, who think they're getting a particular reward for their sacrifice, rather than those who think they'll be getting the same reward they would have received had they continued to live a virtuous life.

I had to think about this for a while. A willing sacrifice is an act of love. a suicide is an act of selfishness. One gives his life, the other takes it.

I would think that a willing sacrifice would be done to help someone else, whereas suicide is basically a selfish act.

Phoenix got it right.

Suicide typically has no beneficial result.

A suicide mission which is willing sacrifice, could result in lives being saved.

Maybe you'll see it if you put it in a context of war. Would you call the soldier who falls on a grenade to save others a suicide or a hero?

Sacrifice is when you give your life to save or protect someone else, such as in a war when you die for your country.

Suicide is when you kill yourself because you are depressed and think that your life will never get better.

Well the first one is pushing someone out of the way of a truck and getting hit, the other is just diving under for it, saving nobody.

You needed to ask this? Maybe you should reword it if you mean something different.

Maybe a suicide is sort of like a sacrifice to Satan, whereas a normal sacrifice is not. See how that works? It's not the dying that's bad, it's who you're dying for.

I dunno, I'm just making stuff up, but doesn't that sound sorta Biblical?
