We are called to be salt & light in this world. If we don't vote, those who oppose life and Biblical teachings will. What do you think about this subject? Should Christians vote?

Don S.,

If I followed that logic, then I'd say God made a mistake when He put Joseph, Esther, and Daniel in governmental positions during their day. Plus He wouldn't have had Paul testify in Rome.

Some say yes, Christians should be involved in the political process to stand up for the right. Others say we're not supposed to contaminate ourselves with the world. I say, yes, vote. If you don't use your voting privilege, you have no right to complain about the government you get. Abstaining has its place, but as so many have said, For evil to triumph it is sufficient that "good" people do nothing.

Christians should definitely vote and not a large percent do. There have been many polls done on this. However, I cannot answer why they don't. We should remain relevant even when we are "not of this world". We cannot expect positive change in this country if we do not vote and/or speak up. I have voted since the year I turned 18. I feel it is very important. Besides, many people gave their lives to give me the right to vote. It is a priviledge. (answer given by educated believer that makes complete sentences quite well)

I was not aware that "all born again Christians" do not vote..??
Are you sure that that is an accurate assumption?

I did find this piece --- BUT it is "tongue-in-cheek" [JOKINGLY]: :)
"Garrison Keillor "jokes" that born-again Christians should not be allowed to vote, while the New York Times runs a piece ruminating on the implications of assassinating President Bush.

I know this is the silly season, but I truly expected less silliness from people/institutions who actually have (had?) reputations to protect." {JOKINGLY stated! : ) }

I did find these relevant articles: : )

THE BOTTOM LINE:
Every single person in American [no matter what religion] should ALL VOTE! : )

I think Christians should vote. It is a constitutional right that Christians in the US can vote.

And a Christian should ask God for wisdom to vote for the right people.

I think that those who vote should encourage others who don't vote to vote. Because most US citizens will pick the right people. And when the votes for the right person out number the votes for the wrong person, then we all win.

Those making excuses to not vote is usually just because of laziness. Or self righteousness. Or they are just not interested.

how do you know they don't? Do you have connections to the polls or something?

Though really...as long as the electoral college has the power...one or two votes doesn't make any difference.

I didn't vote last election cause I wasn't old enough yet. This next election I'll be 21 so I will be voting.

Jesus wanted no part of man's government, some Christians feel the same way. People wanted to make Jesus a king but he felt that it was better to focus on God's government rather than man's. While it's true that some people who oppose the Bible may get elected, that shouldn't make a difference in how we live our lives. God gave us free will and it should be our heart, not man's laws, that prompts us to live life in an upright manner. It doesn't matter who is in office, we should live by the example that Jesus set for us. Having a Christian politician in office won't change peoples' heart conditions, but talking to them about the Bible (if they're interested) just might. Could you imagine Jesus running for political office? I think he'd much rather spend His time helping people learn about God rather than running a political campaign. Just my thoughts.

I think voting should have nothing to do with whether or not one is a Christian. It should be done because you believe a certain candidate can do the job.

But sometimes you're just stuck with choosing between a turd sandwich and a giant douche and you might as well just save yourself the trouble.

Everyone should vote- exept those who are ignorant about the issues. There is no excuse for not voting. I actually don't know any born agains who don't vote.

I do think that people who only go vote because of "get out the vote" events don't know enough about our country to vote.

I have heard many times over the years that if all (or most all) Christians voted, we could turn this nation around. And, this nation needs turning around, doesn't it???? YES, we should vote, indeed !
