Try searching for offical United States Government websites. Any images created by the US Government cannot be copyrighted, since the "government" is the People of the United States of America, and, therefore, the images are the property of the people. This means that they are in the public domain.

Try the Library of Congress site:

www.loc.gov

Be sure to check out the sources of the images on the website. Some of them may be copyrighted and used under license given by the "owner" for use on the government site.
