Matthew 6:19
Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy and where thieves break in and steal; but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.
Luke 14:33
Any of you who does not give up everything he has cannot be my disciple.
Matthew 6:24
No one can serve two masters; for either he will hate the one and love the other, or else he will be loyal to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and Money.

Matthew 19:21-24
Jesus answered, "If you want to be perfect, go, sell your possessions and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven. Then come, follow me." When the young man heard this, he went away sad, because he had great wealth. Then Jesus said to his disciples, "I tell you the truth, it is hard for a rich man to enter the kingdom of heaven. Again I tell you, it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to enter the kingdom of God."
Matthew 19:28-29
Jesus said to them, "I tell you the truth, at the renewal of all things, when the Son of Man sits on his glorious throne, you who have followed me will also sit on twelve thrones, judging the twelve tribes of Israel. And everyone who has left houses or brothers or sisters or father or mother or children or fields for my sake will receive a hundred times as much and will inherit eternal life.

Luke 9:23-25
Then he said to them all: "If anyone would come after me, he must deny himself and take up his cross daily and follow me. For whoever wants to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for me will save it. What good is it for a man to gain the whole world, and yet lose or forfeit his very self?
Matt 13: 22
The one who received the seed that fell among the thorns is the man who hears the word, but the worries of this life and the deceitfulness of wealth choke it, making it unfruitful.
Hebrews 13:5
Keep your lives free from the love of money and be content with what you have, because God has said, "Never will I leave you; never will I forsake you."
Phil 2:3
Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit, but in humility consider others better than yourselves.
Acts 2:44-45
All the believers were together and had everything in common. Selling their possessions and goods, they gave to anyone as he had need.

If you want to truly be a *disciple* of Jesus you are going to have to put Him first; He might want you in tough places that would mean you sacrificing your own wealth and comfort. Thats not the same thing as saying you must be like this to be saved. But those who do give themselves wholeheartedly like that are going to be highly rewarded, whereas most believers (this applies to many believers in Western countries where believing is quite easy) won't.
Actually Jesus righteousness is what makes christians acceptable to God. Of course one gets a new impetus towards what is good as a christian, but being a shining star isn't what determines if you get into heaven - otherwise few people would make it, including you and me.

We still do that, some more than others. Sacrifice is made for people every day. Just because we are Christian does not mean we do not have things, the passages are to say we need to be willing to give up everything if Jesus calls us to do so. I know So many who have done just that. Anything from moving to another country to follow the will of the Lord to wearing something out one day and when a stranger on the street absolutely loves that necklace, or T shirt or shoes, giving to that person what it is that they like that you have to give. This is what they are talking about. Having and being willing to give up what you have for others.

How do you know we ignore them? You don't know all of us. You may know a few Christians who are greedy guts; but I bet you know a few non-Christians who are the same.
You certainly don't know me. If you did, you wouldn't have to ask me this question.
