...and are most Baptists Republican?

No.

Baptists tend to be much more political than Lutherans or Presbyterians, but there are both liberal and conservative Baptists.

Catholics tend to be more political as well, but their ethic does not fit well into either the Republican or the Democratic mold, and so you see many on both sides.

I'm a libertarian-leaning Lutheran, but that's a bit unusual.

You really can't draw party lines. You will find both in every denominational setting.
I will say that you will find most traditional Christian denominations to lean more toward conservatism.... Catholics, LCMS Lutherans, and yes, Baptists.
But, if you look at the doctrine and teachings, you will see where others do tend to fall toward more liberal lines... ELCA Lutherans, Presbyterians, Episcopalians (Anglicans), Methodists.

Unfortunately, a lot of Catholics are democrat, but I wouldn't say most. Democrats promote abortion, twisting this heinous crime with nice words, making it a "choice". Catholics by and large do not support abortion, and in fact are subject to excommunication if they have or participate in an abortion.

You might remember the last presidential election, that Bishop who got in trouble with the media for announcing that he would deny Kerry communion because of his abortion stance.

My general attitude is a pox on both their houses, but I usually hold my nose and vote Republican, because I just can't tolerate the alternative.

The Catholic Church is Conservative so I'd say they SHOULD be Republican. Lutherans are accepted by the Church so they're probably conservative too. I can't answer for the Presbyterians.

Catholics seem to be split pretty evenly.

Unfortunately no political party has a platform in line with Catholic social teaching.

The Catholic Church is pro-life in the widest sense. This is often called a "Consistent Ethic of Life."

This pro-life stance stresses the highest regard for dignity of human life including that of:

+ All people in objecting to unjust war and nuclear arms. (closer to Democratic platform)

+ The unborn in objecting to to abortion, in vitro fertilization, frozen embryos, embryonic stem cell research, and cloning (closer to Republican platform)

+ The elderly, sick and dying in objecting to assisted suicide and euthanasia (closer to Republican platform)

+ Prisoners in objecting to the death penalty (closer to Democratic platform)

+ The poor and minorities in supporting social justice issues (closer to Democratic platform)

Some Catholics are enthusiastically anti-abortion and align themselves with the Republican party.

When you look at the big picture, the Democratic party supports more "Catholic" issues so some Catholics are Democrats.

Neither party follows all Catholic teachings.

For more information, see the Catechism of the Catholic Church, sections 2259 and following: http://www.usccb.org/catechism/text/pt3sect2chpt2art5.htm#2259

With love in Christ.

I am Catholic. Catholicism is my religion as well as my politics. I am not Democrat or Republican, liberal or conservative. I vote for those who uphold my beliefs and the beliefs of my faith. I don't follow a political party, I follow God.
