What about Beagles?

Dalmations and Beagles shed quite a bit.. Schnauzers don't have the same kind of "fur".. so instead of shedding.. it knots up and stays on the body.. bad news if you don't have the tools to groom them yourself because the trips to the groomers get expensive every 2 months or so. (brushing daily will help keep the problem down a bit.. make it a bit less pricey)

All require exercise.. and a fair amount.. Dalmations and Beagles tend to hold their energy in.. and will release it all at once.. Schnauzers will become really tense and nervous if not exercised well..

Beagles are easiest to socialize.. Dalmations next.. and Schnauzers NEED socialization... top priority..

Out of the three breeds I like schnauzers the best because they are HIGHLY intelligent.. they were bred to think for themselves and be problem solvers.. and they have VERY noticeable personalities.. and if one chooses to bond to you, you've got an alarm system, security guard, and alarm clock all in one.. lol.

All three breeds are VERY energetic and require plenty of exercise. The dalmatian and beagle shed a lot of short hairs all over the place. Twice a year they shed more. The schnauzer will not shed *as much*, but needs to go to the groomer every 6-8 weeks.

Schnauzers shed very little. However, you do need to keep them brushed and/or go to the groomer.

Dalmatians (I've heard) shed a lot. They have small hairs that get into everything. However, short-haired dogs have the advantage of being pretty easy to groom. Just rub it down with a hound brush a few times a week.

Miniature Schnauzers are very active dogs. But "a lot of exercise" is subjective. I guess I'd put at the top of my exercise list the Australian Cattle Dog I babysat once. That was crazy! Yes, Schnauzers need a lot of exercise, but not as much as ACDs. I'd think not even as much as my Brittany in the prime of his life. But they need more than Maltese and Poodles. (All breeds I've had experience with.)

I've never had a Dalmatian, but they were originally bred as coach dogs, to run alongside horse-drawn carriages all day. I'd think they would definitely need a lot of exercise, possibly more than Miniature Schnauzers.

ADD: Beagles shed, but I've never heard that they're heavy shedders. They can be noisy and they're not reliable off-leash. Yes, they also require quite a bit of exercise.

Both of those breeds require a lot of exercise. They are not just sit around the house kind of dogs. Dalmations shed a lot and their hair can ge into everything. Schnauzers require regular grooming. Go to www.petfinder.com or your shelter to find either one! Do lots of research before you bring one home. It takes a lot of training, time, money and patience to own a dog. Are you prepared for that? Do you know where you can take a dog for walks and runs? Where will the dog stay? Do you have a yard? Are you in a house or an appartment? Do you have enough money for vet bills and obedience classes? Do you have the time for a do? You have to answer those questions before you consider bringing a dog home.

Dalmation dogs are less expensive, all dogs shed, but the dalmations fur is super short so its hardly noticible. Yes, they need to be walked atleast twice a week unless you have a huge backyard. I wouldnt get the schnauzer. Too small and not as cute as a Dalmation. They are also expensive, unless you can afford it. They are not good guards dogs, how are they gonna take down a criminal?? Large breeds are the best! Also, consider getting a German Shepherd. I have 3!! :)

I had a Dalmatian. I loved him so much, he's in doggie heaven now. He shed ALOT. He loved taking walks, but he was happy to lay around with me. The problem with my Dal, was he was overweight, probably because he didn't exercise enough. He was also pretty aggressive toward strangers, i had to put him up when people came over.

i used to own a miniature schnauzer
they are great dog
easy to train .
they dont shed ( their coat need to be trimmed 2-3 times a year)
great watch dogs ( standard and giant schnauzers are goo guard dogs too )
miniature schnauzers dont require that much exercise
a walk for about 20-30 minutes will be enough
ohh and they are great with kids

i got a liver brown dalmation and he used to shed loads so the vet told us to get this special oil to put on his food to reduce it and it did. they need a fair amount of exercise and they are very loving and playful. hey can be stubbon sometimes. but he is the best dog i've ever had. to get rid of most of the excess hair brush the dalmations with a pair of rubber gloves up and down it works really well if you do it everyday.

My sister has a Chocolate Lab and a schaunzer and OMG, what a zoo! The dalmations are a bit agressive and I'd warn you about this regarding children, but otherwise, just be prepared to be running as together they will be quite a handful...at least to start. D'n'D
