khanh 102, religion is WAR...

Because wars are fought between men. Using religion as a guideline introduces the absurd proposition that some magical invisible spirit is on your side, helping you win.

In reality, that's just not true. Churches in America try to paint a portrait of George Bush as some sort of savior. Try telling that to the 3 year old girl in Iraq whose head was blown off the other day (all in the name of Jesus and Oil profits)

Religion should not be used as a guideline to go to war because it's the imperfect heart of man that causes them. I think greed and the need for dominance causes war and these people selfishly think that God backs them on it. If everyone's God backed them on their wars then the strongest God would have won already and no one would have died on that side. All nations suffer from War, there is never a winner.

Uh, because religion is irrational!

It wasn't religion per se, but a "religious" attitude certainly, that convinced our retarded cowboy "W" that he didn't need to concern himself with actual facts on the ground in prosecuting this war - as he famously told Pat Robertson, he didn't think there would be ANY US casualties! Not to say that the war was religiously motivated - it was all about raiding the US Treasury for his friends in the war industry. But it was partly this irrational, superstitious, willfully ignorant "religious" mentality that made it such a disaster.

Religion is always used during war, even when the war has a secular start.

Think about all of our military mottos. For country for God for family.

Religion is a perfect vehicle for motivating soldiers, and a perfect vehicle for justification of murder.

With one fell swoop of the U.S. government’s pen, Washington has hit Iran with some of the strongest U.S. unilateral sanctions since the 1979 Islamic Revolution, singling out Iran’s Defense Ministry, Revolutionary Guards Corps (IRGC), and its elite Quds Force in a move that is likely to send the crisis over Tehran’s nuclear program to a new level of tension and uncertainty.

U.S. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice and Treasury Secretary Henry Paulson announced the much-anticipated move at a news conference in Washington today. They said the administration of U.S. President George W. Bush had designated the IRGC as a proliferator of weapons of mass destruction and the Quds Force as a supporter of terrorism. They said the steps aimed to punish Iran for supporting terrorism in Iraq and the Middle East, as well as for its missile sales and nuclear activities.

Rice said Iran “continues to spurn our offer of open negotiations, instead threatening peace and security by pursuing nuclear technologies that can lead to a nuclear weapon, building dangerous ballistic missiles, supporting Shi'ite militants in Iraq, and terrorists in Iraq, Afghanistan, Lebanon, and the Palestinian territories." She added that Washington remains open to a “diplomatic solution.”

Religion is evil.
That is why Jesus sat with the prostitutes and the tax collectors
Jesus gave us a way to get to heaven by dying on the cross for our sins.

Because let's say George Bush closed his eyes, and heard the imaginary voice of Jesus... and now he is convinced that nuclear bombs are the best solution to this little religious difference we are having with the middle east.

Then again... maybe we should just let the religious folks duke it out, and we can just wait until they destroy themselves...

Every war ever waged has been over religion.

Not entirely over religion. But it's been a huge factor.

religion is the main cause, but not the only one:
territoy disputes, economic troubles, rivalry between two groups, overthrowing a ruling power

but religion has claimed more than any of those
