has anyone shot a deer by just walking into the woods without scouting or is scouting the woods before hunting season better?

Hey Jimbo 49 If there are no hunters then the fish and game has no money to preserve land for the animals and then the land would be sold woods would be destoryed and the deer would have no place to go. so would you rather have hunters killing animals for food and somtimes for the homeless or would you rather the deer died for not have any woods to live in. to put it shortly hunters pay for license's so that they can hunt the money goes to the fish and game so that they can buy land that will stay as wood.

Scouting is always better than a cold stalk. The chances of success are low simply because the Deer will see and smell you, long before you are aware of them. If you are going to hunt an area without scouting first at least find some way to get up off of the ground.. A portable Deer stand or large tree limb to get you above the Deer. This will give you a better chance of seeing Deer as they approach from a distance and are coming towards you. This will only increase your chances of seeing more Deer and getting a good shot..Good Luck!

Well, scouting an area is going to help you find the trails and bedding areas that deer use and of course, that's where you find the deer.

I have just walked into unknown woods on hunts and sometimes you get lucky. Hey, look at it this way, a nice walk in the woods with no deer beats a day at work, right?

it can go both ways if you have corn fields and you know they are there all the time then yes you can just about go over there one morning and lay you a deer down. on the other hand you dont have any type of feeding grounds for them to eat.then yes scouting an area for them would be wise. but dont wait the night b4 and go scout for them do it a week b4 you go because ur sent will last anywere from 1-3 days after u have left the area.

Scouting is the best way to hunt & be sucsessful, but if you go out into the bush when the deer are in the rut & you are in deer country chances are that you'll at least see something if not fill your tag.

sorry, i have to say this. this is a question for the answer that jimbo49 gave. you said to leave them little defensless deer alone and just buy some venison. i am an avid deer hunter and i wondering who the guy is that killed the deer that you just go buy it from. the fact is that you must be ok with somebody shooting them if you buy it, stupid.

Obviously scouting the area would be best, but yes it is possible to just walk into a strange area and have success. I have done it a number of times.

Definitely scout if you can. At the very least obtain some aerial and topo maps. Sit on funnels and food sources. But if you can, do every bit of scouting you can, it'll pay off.

You will raise your chances of success greatly if you will take the time to scout the area you will be hunting in.*
