No. However, it has to be treated so it does not become cancer.

during a consult and research after a pap smear detected abnormalities i found out that pre cancer can turn into cancer. However with treatment the abnormality may go way. Depending on where the pre cancer was diagnosed. You should pick the brain of your MD and also do Internet research in order to ask multiple questions. Good luck everything will be OK.

Pre-cancerous is when there are abnormal cells found in a biopsy. If the area isn't treated, then it will turn into cancer. Getting the treatment is to prevent the cancer.

I have suffered from Barretts Esophagus for years, and the doctor said it is pre-cancerous, not cancer. But I have to go once a year for an endoscopy to make sure it has not turned to cancer. So far so good. Great question....

I am not sure that they still call this stage "pre-cancer". When I was diagnosed with mine, the doctor called my tumor "low malignancy potential", which basically amounted to the fact that, given time, it would become cancerous if nothing was done for treatment. Mine was removed as well as the tissue it was attached to--and that's about it.
Hope this helps...

Pre-cancer is just that, pre-cancer.
It is not cancer, but it is an abnormality that may turn into cancer.
It needs to be monitored more carefully to ensure that cancer doesn't develop, or if it does, that it gets early treatment.
