I have a gay friend and quite obviously he is only interested in me as a friend. So why then does my boyfriend get so jealous of him? It drives me mad-its the same argument everytime.

Its hormones, and they overwhelm us in romantic situations, even we can't control them.

Be fair. Women get jealous, too.

This may have nothing to do with potential sexual interest. Maybe your boyfriend wants to bond with you in a way that your other friend has. Maybe he just wants to be "your all."

It's not good that he's jealous. If there is no threat of your friend stealing your affections away, your boyfriend needs to lighten up; it's a sign of his insecurity. In conversations, you shouldn't mention your friend to your boyfriend. Just keep the peace, and avoid that subject.

It's just a protective mentality. He would honestly not be jealous unless he feels threatened, which obviously he does.

If I have a friend and he is talking to a girl that I do not find appealing, I am not at all jealous.

Several million years of selective pressure have conditioned this response. The individual who fends off the competition is more likely to pass his genes to the next generation. Jealousy is instinct. It is a biological force which we can tame as "civilized" people, but is never too deep under the surface.

Knowing this fact may help us to respond to jealous behavior in a more understanding way--not to merely condone it, but to empathize with those who exhibit it.

i've dealt with the same problem with my bf...for some reason he thinks i will be the only woman in my gay friends life that will have the ability to turn him straight....it doesn't matter how often i tell him how gay he is....
it's really just stupid....maybe it's because guys think that lesbians will fool around with guys (thanx to porn and drunk college girls at bars) so why wouldn't a gay guy hook up with a girl occaissionally....

Men are over protective by nature. It also depends on your boyfriend's beliefs, if he believes that homosexuals CHOOSE to be gay than are born that way he may be worried that your friend might switch to heterosexuality. Also...

men are disgusting pigs and don't know any better!

well sometimes its a jealousy that they dont want to lose you. and sometimes is a jealousy that no one else can talk to you. The difference is its a bad jealousy when they start looking through your inbox and recent calls list. And want you to call whenever you get somewhere and tell them excatly whos there, what youll be doing and who will be there. If they do none of these things, but just worry sometimes, just comfort them knowing you love them
