The toddler in question was born one month premature, prolonged labor and mother losing alot of blood, face presentation. Was walking and talking until age 14 months. Then had 105 temp, upper respiratory infection and a convulsion. Taken to ER, given penicillin and got better. However, the walking and talking stopped for over 18 months. Then these abilities were slowly regained. What do you think caused the delay? Thank You!

[Then had 105 temp, ...and a convulsion.] = brain damage, should be assessed by a doctor. Sorry.

High temps can cause brain damage and they have to re-learn everything. It is easier for a young child to do this than it is for an adult. My brother in law had to have a non-cancerous brain tumor removed 14 years ago and when they did the surgery he had to re-learn everything. Even reading, and he had been reading since he was 3-4 year-old. He graduated from college last year with his accounting degree. It can be done, but it is a lot of hard work. He needs therapy, and a lot of attention from his parents working on games, walking, reading at home to stimulate his brain.
Sorry, I meant he got his engineering degree, not accounting.

Oooooooo, "parrot talking" (echolalia) is never a good sign, nor are losing abilities he once had that are so slow to return.
He should certainly be evaluated by a pediatric neurologist and put into early childhood intervention through the school district, and even get additional therapy privately; TODAY!!

Probably the fever and the convulsion together. 105 is a really high fever and the convulsion was due to the fever, most likely.

This child should have been evaluated a LONG time ago.
Children don't loose walking without a major injury or trauma.
He/she needs a developmemtal specialist, neurological evaluation, physical therapy, speech therapy, etc.
See doctor ASAP.
