Do you think that the prevalence of text messaging and shortcut spelling is making poor spellers of the high school generation? Or is it just online? (I know it's not because I see resumes of people who have no concept of grammar and spelling.)

I do think that text messaging has an effect on our high school generation and anyone else who texts on a regular basis. I have considered myself a very good speller, but after texting often (with my high school/ college age kids) I find myself in chatting with friends using 2 for to and u for you along with others. I am still good at spelling, I just have to put more effort into spelling words out. Maybe the texting generation is just lazy!? There's no reason why resumes should have spelling errors with spell check available. That just screams lazy and not really caring. So sad, but true!

I think that text message spelling is terrible and leads to sloppiness and the lack of good grammar and poor spelling.
