consume mainly whole foods as they are low calorie, nutritious and provide a positive effect on the endocrine system. make meals simple like:
breakfast:
cooked egg whites, whole oatmeal, fruit
lunch
skinless poultry, high fiber carb like beans, lentils, etc. veggies
dinner
fish, steamed vegetables, mixed green salad
* snacks during the day between meals can be things like mixed nuts and seeds, whole fruit, beef jerky, vegetables, etc.

You have gain weight cause you are not getting proper nutrition. In our diet we have excess of calories and less of nutrition. Excess like fried food, white flour, colas, fast food and less of nutrition like protein, vitamins and minerals, fiber, herbs, micro nutrient etc. If you want to increase any nutrition's automatically excess also increases, if you want to decrease excess nutrients also decreases.
