Sometimes it's a personal choice, not necessarily for religious reasons. It's easier to keep that area cleaned. My parents did it for both my brothers as did most of the males in my family. I didn't have boys, but if I did, I would have done the same. Good luck. 2D

Many hospitals offer this procedure to baby boys (their parents actually) as a matter of hygiene. The science has waffled back and forth about the efficacy of this procedure, and many have strong feelings about it one way or the other.
I remember having my little baby boy circumcized and I'm LDS, and minutes after the procedure, my dear grandmother called and said "You're not having that baby circumsized, are you?" So, I felt guilty - as much for that as for the pain it caused him - but relieved that some health problems might be avoided in the future. My husband is uncircumsized, and, to be honest, it doesn't seem to bother either of us. The religious ritual of circumcision is a matter of conscience - not science - but you may get arguments there too. Plus, it's a lot easier to do it when they're young - not as painful - but NOTE TO DOCTORS: babies DO feel pain - ask any mother.

Lots of men prefer to be circumcised, not necessarily for religious reasons. The parents made a personal choice.

Circumcision is often advised to parents of children that have very tight foreskin that can be extremely uncomfortable for the baby, especially if sanitary conditions in the childs diaper aggravates the situation further due to infections. Religion doesn't even come into the situation in this case. Approx 1200 males < 6months in UK undergo this operation for this reason.

I'm an atheist, and had my son circumcised anyway. Part of it was hygenic, but part of it (I suppose) was simply so he would be like me. It seemed like a good idea at the time; though if I had to do it over (considering how he screamed for the next few days afterward) I would've probably left well enough alone...

In the USA it is very common -- it was thought to be more sanitary for a boy to be circumcised and it was often done for that reason.

Apparently 80% of US males are circumcised and the some of the remaining 20% are "stigmatised" for not being able to afford it. Male circumcision is done for medical reasons at any age, mainly due to foreskin lubrication (lack of) problems.

There are some health reasons to do this, cleanliness wise. Regardless, it is a rather common practice in the United States.

Some people do, Jesus was circumcised and it keeps the bits cleaner and that (also makes the penis look larger - in an adult obviously) - I'd be happy to have my sons circumcised too.

People do weird things for religion or culture. IMHO it is wrong to make that choice about anybody's penis be it religious or culutral. Many people do it just because they get bad information about it being better, or just because the father is, or (not so much now, but it used to happen) it's done anyway.
