Being a correctional officer is a very boring job for the most part. Occasionally there will be something exciting going on, but a lot of what you do is very repetetive. Prisoners must be counted numerous times each day, they must be monitored as they move about whatever facility they are in while they eat, work, exercise, etc. You'll be on your feet a LOT. Female inmates are not as violent as male inmates, but they'll act up from time to time. Most of the time, though, you'll be doing routine tasks.

Youll Attend An Academy And Get Trained. Youll Be In Charge Of The Care, Custody and Control Of Either State Or County Inmates. You May Be Issued A Radio Or Personal Safety Alarm(PAS), Possibly Keys Or Even A FireArm If Recieving An Outside Post. Main Thing Is To show Up On Time Count Inmates Correctly And Youll Have A Career. Youll See Alotta Nude Woman Hear Alotta Bitchin, So It Goes In Da Penitentary. Best Of Luck To Ya.

My Husband is a Peace Officer [ Correctional ], he says he would rather work in a Male Prison. Women can be worse than male prisoners. More vicious/more accusations especially toward male officers/guards.
You are basically going to tell a bunch of adult children - come here--go over there- no you can't - give me that - except all day---every day..
And you can expect that when you use the N word [NO] you wil get alot of written complaints/grievances turned in about you--they will try to get you fired when you say No---but usually the Institution knows they are not to be trusted so your job is safe...
My advice..DO not treat these people as friends--do not tell them anything personal about yourself. You will be there to guard society against criminals, not make friends

First off, as for what you will be seeing, I wont get graphic but thats exactly what you are going to be seeing. As for what you are going to be doing, it depends on what part of the prison you are in. You can be a typical 'guard' where you make sure there are no escapes. You can be on the floor where you monitor the day to day moves of the women. Making sure they get out and in of their cells. You could be on the yard where a majority of the population will be during the day for exercise. Or you could be somewhere like intake where you take them in after sentencing.

Believe me, men' s prison is better. I work as psychiatric nurse in forensic ward for males, but have worked on female ward before, nasty nasty. You feel ashamed you are woman after this experience.

Try imagining all the things you see on public restroom walls, actually happening.
