and make up lies in an attempt to get the officer fired to get out of a ticket they earned?
I understand the right to argue an officers opnion of a complete stop as opposed to roling through a stop sign. The legal system has an avenue set up just for this. If you do not like the officers opnion you take him to traffic court. But to go beyond this and make out sworn statements and lies in an attempt to have the officer fired is beyond me.
I know there are people who refuse to take responsibility for their actions and find ways to blame others for their actions, but there needs to be a limit somewhere. If you don't want to take the responsibilty for your actions and want to blame others that's fine. But to get out of a $150.00 ticket by trying to ruin the officers reputation and job is silly.
The officer relies on his income the same as everyone else. He has bills to pay and mouths to feed as well.
Why do people try this approach to handeling a situation.

well I can see by the answers how many people don't know how to drive!!! I bet a few of you have just found out that open containers get you in trouble and it WAS more than an ounce. Everyone on here who is cursing and talking about the Nazi-Police are definitly not first time offenders. And maybe...just maybe, there aren't alot of educated, white-coller people in traffic court because they were smart enough not to break the law. I am so tired of you whack jobs who can't stay out of trouble, trying to blame you place in life for you being in trouble. 60% of america is considered low-income and more than that are the 'working joes'. Since only 6%-10% are in trouble (and that includes the upperclass snobs with money who get arrested for tax evasion and killing their wives/mistresses), your logic about being picked on sounds pretty damn weak. And don't forget, the cops make as little or less than the average joe. The average houshold income is around 45,000 and cops make 28,000 to start in almost every big city. So take your poor excuses and blow them out your poor ear holes.

Let me give you an example........... I am an office that responded to a collision with a serious injury and resulting in a vehicle fire. The driver of the vehicle fire is pulled out of the vehicle by police officer at the scene. The fire department is called to treat the driver and put out the vehicle fire, which is a small fire under the hood. All good so far right, well the fire fighters arrive on scene, meander up to the vehicle and the victim slower than a snail, pull the hose from the truck. But before they put out the fire and treat the victim, one of these brave men see an obvioulsy emply pistol magazine sitting on the back seat. At which point the all off the firefighter walk away from the car and the victim and state that they will not go near the BURNING car until an officer clears the vehicle for weapons. Well we can't clear the vehicle if there is a fire the engine compartment. So what we do is pop the hood, collect four or five fire extiguishers from psserbyers and put out the fire, search the vehicle and find no weapon. Then the firefighters, knowing that it is safe now, cut the battery cables and treat the victim. The reason that I tell you this story is because it illustrates why being a police officer is a more challenging job. Police Officers don't have the luxery of waiting for some one else to make it safe for us to do our jobs. Fire fighters have the luxery of showing up and doing nothing if they decide it is to scary for them.

I don't lay charges (criminal or traffic) unless I'm sure that the offence actually happened. Morally, I am not capable of doing anything else, but I watch defendants and witnesses lie outright, they tell bold faced, complete and utter lies on the stand to get out of what they did.

The vast, vast majority of police officers are guided by a strong moral compass and will tell the truth on the stand Because intergrity is always more important than a conviction.

I am still waiting for that lightning bolt to come out of the sky when the defendant tells a lie on the stand after swearing on the bible.

Judges do see through this on many occasions. I had a judge tell a defendant that he believed her story (her defence) was an "exculpatory fabrication", the closest he could come to saying "liar liar pants on fire".

Some people are just very vengeful. It doesn't just happen to cops. It happens to a lot of people. The problem with being a cop in the first place is you have to get in people's way and stop them from doing what they want to do. That's going to make them mad no matter if they are wrong. A lot of people find that because of the the way they look, which sometimes can or can't be helped, though it doesn't legally matter, cops give them a hard time. They feel persecuted. It's not about the ticket. This person is making a statement. He's going to ruin a life like the cops have ruined his (or a friend's). It's tough to be a cop because many cops are jerks, and sometimes it's hard to tell the difference.

There is no moral right or any other right for that matter!! Most are simply pathological liars. They lie to try and look good to everyone else, they lie to try and gain financially, or somehow socially and avoid most definitely to stave off any punishment that they have coming to them. It starts early in childhood - If Parents don't do their jobs, and allow the TV or Video games become the babysitter, then what else can we expect----- These people grow up with a sense of "entitlement". They truly believe that they are entitled to stuff, rather than earning it...It isnt just societies fault---it isn't just the fault of Parents, but it does START there!!!

So, in my limited opinion, it up to Parents during those tender years to shape, and cultivate an individual who does not lie - Most times the person who has been deceived knows that this type of liar is deluded and is to be pitied.

Lying often gets worse with the passage of time. When you get away with a lie it often impels them to continue their deceptions - this can lead into anisocial personality AKA sociopathinc behavior!

PARENTS - TEACH YOUR CHILDREN!! Love them, guide them, instruct them patiently - These are the ones that will one day take care of you - and run the run the country!!

I am probably a little older than most of the folks on YA. I'm a baby boomer who grew up respecting the police and when I saw them doing wrong I became a cop to try to make things right. Then I really learned about people. You try to be "nice" to a drunk and he throws up in your police car. You try to affect an arrest and all the people who saw two episodes of Adam 12 try to tell you that you can't arrest the person. You try to be respectful of persons you stop for minor traffic offenses and they respond with "what the hell do you want?"
Society in general has let down its defenders by coddling criminals and allowing kids to never understand consequences. Time out???!!! Give me a break.
Police are the thin blue line that separates our society from chaos.
Most of the police haters on YA are likely criminals who were stupid enough, yes stupid enough, to get caught. Heaven help us if criminals ever become smart!

The only other thing I can think of is that the person has some form of Mental Illness. Or they just cannot accept the reality that what they did was wrong and that the "Police Officer" is just one more thing in life that wants to ruin their life.

I counted five of them in the responses, need I say more?

These same types of people make up crap about teachers to try and get them fired, too. I've had the grand misfortune of having taught a group of teens like that. Some of them are even backed up by their parents. It's sad. As to "why" they do it? All I can come up with is that either they're just too darned lazy to take any responsibility for themselves or they are just too darned lazy to think of anyone else but themselves.

I just retired after 33 years on a Sheriffs Department. During that time about a dozen arrestees tried to get my badge for various reasons.

I was cleared by IA every time.

It goes with the job.
If you let it bother you..."they" win.

Some people are just knuckleheads.. See some examples above in some of the answers you've gotten.

First.... society has fostered a mentality now that no one is at fault for what they do... its all society's fault. Half these people have never had any discipline and they go through life with the idea that they can do anything they want. Some one finally tells them NO, or punishes them in any way and they find someone to blame as they KNOW its not their fault.

Next, and this I have seen many, many times over my 25 years, a lot of folks have the idea that all they have to do is make some crazy complaint on the officer and that will cause someone to say "how about we just drop that ticket / arrest to make you happy?".
