i dont think that turning of the heating will help as, like they have in your carpet, they would find somewhere warm and breed there...

Flea eggs can lay dormant for six months to a year. So, they won't freeze. Sorry. You are going to have to treat the little buggers!
First let me tell you that I own a pest control company and what I will recommend is the complete treatment that should help you completely get rid of the fleas.
First, treat the pet with Capstar. This is a pill that you get from the vet that will kill all of the fleas that get on the animal for the first 24 hours. Second, use either Frontline or Advantage, these can also be purchased from the vet. Frontline can be used on pets 12 weeks old or older. Advantage can be used on animals as young as 6 weeks. If the pet is old enough for either product, switch back and forth between the two. One month use one, the next use the other. The reason I recommend this is that there are two main types of fleas that infest pets. One product works better on the first type and the other product works better on the second type. By using both, you make sure you have covered all your bases.
Once the pet has been treated, you must treat your home and yard. The best products to do this would include not only a killing agent, but also a sterilization agent. Inside, I would use Ultracide, if you can get it. (Many on line sites sell it.) Follow the instructions on the label Wash all animal’s bedding and vacuum frequently. I WOULD NOT put any chemical in the vacuum bag or catch container, other than a flea collar. It is too dangerous to risk the vacuum accidentally spreading that chemical through the air. Throw out the vacuum bag or dump the catch container after every vacuuming. You can never vacuum too much DO NOT STEAM CLEAN YOUR RUGS This can hatch flea eggs and make your problem worse.
Outside I would use Demon WP mixed with Gentrol or Nylar, carefully following label instructions. Treat the entire yard, paying special attention to under bushes and low hanging branches. Most of these products can be bought at any Do-It-Yourself Pest Control company either on line or in a store.
Treating your house and yard is just as important as treating the pet
It is also very important to stay away from the grocery store or box store products like Zodiac or Hartz. Many of these products can cause severe allergic reactions in animals.

They prob will be lying dormant in ur house-Furniture,carpets, bedding. Do u have an animal -Treat with vet product-As these work and also buy house hold spray Poss best a vet one as these are the strongest.Wash all bedding on high temp.Turn ur heating on when using spray as it gets more of the little critters.Giving ur carpets and any furniture a good hoover as this movement stimulates them so u can suck them up!

Fleas are a pain in the bum , the reason you ages haven't hatched is because they require heat , eggs can lay dormant for ages , they say if we where to have nuclear was the two surviving lifeforms would be fleas and mosquito's they are absolute pain to get rid of. Firstly you need to spray your home from top to bottom with spray like zodiac , this stops eggs from hatching .it is expensive , but the alternative is to get bitten and bitten and bitten.Wash your dog with tea tree oil weak solution to remove fleas treat with front line. Whilst spraying your home keep dogs outside .Wash all curtains , rugs , cushions , clothes e.t.c .Spray the inside of your dryer and washing machine after each wash.I KNOW THIS IS A HELL OF A JOB , BUT IT THE ONLY WAY YOU CAN BE 100% CCERTAIN THEY HAVE ALL GONE. hoover home after spraying this should be the last you see of the pesky fleas you will need to spray home every 12 months to stop a recurrence. Also keep treatment (frontline to date) , once you have done everything it will be safe to put heating back on .Also spray, spray in hoover in hoover Good luck , i know this si such a long winded and expensive way to deal with problem but it is the only way sorry

For every one flea you see on your pet, there are another 40 in your house.
We have had funny weather this year. You would have thought all the rain would have dampened them out but it seems to have made the problem worse!
Treat your pets with frontline or stronghold and buy a house spray: skoosh & RIP are really good and are availiable from your vets (although your vets may have different products). But definatly buy from a vets and not from a pet shop as they are better quality and tend to get the job done well.
Treat any dogs every 2months and every month with cats. Although during winter you can spread it out abit between doses. You can get frontline that treats both your pet and the house but for that make sure you get 'frontline combo' as normal frontline on treats the animal.

Don't freeze. If you've treated your dogs with frontline. Also if you've used flea spray on the carpets and around the house (without the dogs being around of course), then you shouldn't have a problem. Someone has mentioned ACCLAIM, they are absolutely correct in their answer. It is the best although expensive.
When we found fleas in our house it was because the people we bought the house from had cats. I saw them in the hoover. Now I never empty my hoover in the house, always outside. Good Luck and stay warm.

Yes, put the heating on. There's no point freezing when there are things you can buy to kill fleas!
You can't rely on cold to kill fleas. If the house is warm enough for you to sleep in, it's likely to be warm enough for fleas to survive in. Also eggs can lay dormant until it's warm enough for them to hatch.
Get a proper house spray from a vets. NOT from a pet store. Pet stores aren't licensed to sell the proper chemicals for flea treatment - anything you find in store is just going to be a basic pesticide that you can't expect to work.
If you have pets, again, get your treatments from the vets.

Acclaim is cheaper on line than at the vet, Indorex is also sold by the vet and works as well. Other answers are correct in that the stuff in the pet shops just doesnt work and is a waste of money, but you also need to treat any animals with frontline

Turn your heat on hon, the only way they die is from a hard frost so your only making yourself more miserable than you have to.
Isn't it amazing how miserable something so small can make us and our pets! About the only thing you can take solice in is knowing that the flea as well has a parasite on it usually making the flea miserable to, I was glad to learn that years ago considering what we went thru over them and still are.
Be carefull using any indoor home foggers, we got one from the vets many years ago and couldn't get the pesticide smell out for weeks and had to leave the house for a few days. We were the only house on the block with fans in our windows in the middle of winter with our heat on full blast just blowing it all out the windows, lol.
Dawn dish liquid sprayed thru a miracle grow sprayer helps kill them in the yard and is feasable if your yard is not to large.
Diatomaceous Earth for insects also will kill them indoors and out.
A bag is about $10 and you can sprinkle the dust under couch cusions, carpets and anywhere a flea will breed and hatch, this product is like fine glass for them and cuts them up and they die. I just blasted some large black ants eating my house up with this stuff and it did kill all of them over a period of days and it's non toxic.
The best you can do is vacuum daily, unless you dust the carpets. Keep the pet bedding washed in hot water with laundry det. every few days as well. If you dust with the DE vacuum good first then dust and leave in carpets etc... for at least a week then repeat. Throw out the vac bag wrapped tightly in a plastic bag right away, they can and will climb out if just tossed in the trash.
I just got bit by one the other night so we're back to square one here as well, your not alone going thru this by any means.
Capstar works good and will kill them up to 24 hours on your pet/pets. Keep your pet bathed to at least once a week now till the cold weather sets in and at least kills them off outside (first hard frost).
I know it seems like a loosing battle but keep up on it and eventually you'll win the war on them.
You might wind up after it's over having "post traumatic flea disorder" from fighting them, but you'll win out eventually, lol

Flea eggs live up to 2 years through all weathers. You need to treat your animals with Frontline - which you can only get from the vet - you need to retreat every 3 mnths. With regard to your house - ask your vet for ACCLAIM spray. It isnt cheap at £28 per can but one can will treat a whole 3 bedroomed house. Spray everywhere and this will kill the eggs and larvae and will continue working for 12 months. Dont bother with cheaper sprays etc from pet shops or supermarkets - they dont work as they dont contain the proper chemicals. Only the vet is licensed to sell the real deal xxx

Go to your vets and get Frontline - there is a new one out that kills the fleas on your pets and the ones in the house - easy to use and you don't have to spend ages treating your whoe house.
Just make sure that you treat the pets at a time when they won't be petted by kids if you have them :)
