For years, atheists and theists have debated whether or not there is a God. We've each tried to prove our side; to make things go our way.
But we're forgetting: It's ALREADY happened. Either there is a God, or there isn't--and that fact has already been decided; we simply don't know it yet.
Therefore, why argue? If there is a God, there always will be. If there's not a God, there never will be. Arguing is pointless.
I simply think we all need a wake-up call..
Can't we just accept our own beliefs, stop trying to convert others, and allow the chips to fall where they may?

See what's happening?
This is PATHETIC.
People are attempting to CONVERT me in their answers.
I guarantee you, you will fail. I believe what I believe, and that WILL NOT change simply because you tell me about how great your imaginary friend is.
I don't mind you believing in God. I think it's great that you're excercizing your right to a choice of religion.
BUT, I DO have something against you trying to shove it down my throat.
Your beliefs are yours. Mine are mine. I guarantee the two are different.
That WON'T change.

JC--that is the thing.
I ALREADY HAVE MY BELIEFS.
I don't need your "proof."
I've been told time and time again, that there is proof of God.
But I already have my belief.

STOP making sense
There you go, ruining a perfectly good argument by bringing logic into it.
Party's over, time to go home. 'yay. it's me' went ahead and ruined it for everybody

That is true from a scientific stand point, however when you look at it from a theological stand point those of us who believe to the point we know there is a God have a different view. In the spirit of love I cannot stand by and watch another person die who I could save if I had the opportunity. If I were but able to call our your name and tell you a car was coming down the street at a high rate of speed so that you could move out of the way before you got hit I would do it with out hesitation. The same goes for dieing a spiritual death I want to see you in heaven with me therefore I try to call your name and tell you of the danger, so that you may be protected and be saved from death. There are two kinds of death one we all have to go through and that is physical death where Jesus will before our judgment reserect us into our perfect bodies once again. The other is a spiritual death where we must believe on his name, ( the free choice thing we talk about) in order to be saved from our sins as no unclean thing may reside in the kingdom of heaven with God the father. Spiritual death is not a end to our spirit but is a separation from our father in heaven and his limitless power and glory which he will share with us. So it is with love and happiness in mind I try to convert those to the gospel of Christ. For I wish every one to have a happiness that cannot even be imagined while we reside upon this earth.

well you are right if there is a God there is a God and if there isn't there isn't, however, some people believe you have to believe in Christ to be saved and follow him and all that stuff so I guess some people are trying to make sure those ppl dont' go to hell or something I dunno. But also some ppl make arguements probably partly to convince themselves as well of something they aren't entirely sure of. I know I like getting into debates with ppl over whether there is a God cause it's interseting to hear other ppl's points of view and also helps me to get more facts and determine what I think. Beliefs can change as people get older or learn different things. But it's always nice sometimes to hear why ppl believe what they do. Plus everyone seems to have their own idea of what God is like so they believe their God or church tells them to spread the word of the gospel so but I try not to preach my ideas onto other ppl but I am always in for a good debate one way or the other. But church goers also tend to believe you must believe and have faith to be saved so that might be another reason ppl try to convert others. It's complicated. :D

You are assuming a nice safe linear version of time ... to which most particle physicists would say "If only!"
However, your argument has plenty of merit along the lines of "By definition it will always be unknown."
Lets say that we found rock solid evidence that some entity designed and constructed humanity. Could we call that entity God? Would we then end up pondering if/what created him?
If an entity created the being that created us, would the entity that created us be called God?

Do you really just want to live passively?
Just walk out in the middle of the street and
"let the chips fall where they may"
"...what we find to be true about creation [nature] is also true about salvation [spirituality]. Like everything else in the world, salvation must be done correctly to be successful. For example, consider some examples of how life works, or doesn’t work:
What happens if you drive your car in reverse? Or stop in the middle of a busy freeway? What happens if you let your dog drive your car? Or if you drive on the wrong side of the road—or drive drunk?
The result of driving incorrectly is that you injure or kill yourself and others. Driving incorrectly sooner or later has consequences, even for the best driver in the world.
Consider learning math or having surgery. What if you try to learn math by reading comic books? What if you’re scheduled for a routine appendectomy and the surgeon takes out your brain instead? In either case, you’re in trouble.
If everything in the world must be done correctly to be successful, and if our lives are literally filled with examples of the problems caused for us when we do things incorrectly, why should we conclude that salvation is any different? Why should we conclude there wouldn’t be consequences for doing salvation wrong?
Do we say it is being narrow-minded, intolerant or bigoted for us to drive sober or for surgeons to operate on us properly? Indeed, our very lives may be at stake. And if our lives are already at stake in worldly things, isn’t it also possible that our souls may be at stake in spiritual things? But a life is only for a short period of time; a soul is forever.
Then how much more vital is it that we be certain that salvation be done correctly if our very souls are at stake? The point is that the Christian claim to exclusivity is not something that is out of harmony with how people experience life and with how the world functions.

Very well thought out! I guess we won't know for sure until........ It's not going to change anything if you believe or don't believe, so you're right, stop trying to persuade others to believe as you do because it won't change a thing....there are no "extra points" for believing or dis-believing.

Of course, whether or not we believe in God doesn't determine whether or not God actually exists. But theists seem to refuse to accept that basic fact. Many of them think God is real because they have faith. That is not reality, that is make believe.

Good point, but I would like to point out something.
I am an atheist and, oddly enough, I have NO problem with people believing in a god. I have no problem with religious people or even religion itself.
What I have a problem with is when religion and religious people try to force me to believe the way they do, force religion into public schools, force religion into government, force religion into our bodies, force religion into my home.
THEN I have a real problem.

Exactly. Nothing about our understanding of God can possibly change the truth.
Arguing the point is a waste of time.

Where is the fun in that?
Everyone is an expert on life after death, and everyone is certain they are right or they would go mad. Even those who say they haven't decided believe one or the other.

That will never happen. And there is a GOD and that is why people tell people about him. We aren't trying to convert anybody.
Simpllified: Do you ever tell someone about a band you like? Well I'm telling you about my awesome God. Only God can save you your band can't.
One can not be foreced to believe or even listen. If you don't like it. Don't answer questions about it and don't listen. That is a choice.
