I have all the tolerance (and some amusement) over what someone tells me God will do to me in the name of their religion.
I have no tolerance for was anyone claims they will do to me in the name of their God.
I also have no tolerance for anyone who is not an adherent of my religion trying to tell me that I (or my teachers) don't know or don't interpret my religion correctly.

I understand where you're coming from... I really do. Too often I see people cry Persecution online and they obviously don't really know what real persecution is. The frustration comes when one or two show absolutely no tolerance and then Lie about people of other beliefs (or non-belief). Most are patient at first, but when those 1 or 2 don't listen and continue to lie about others it just flows right into one argument after another.
As for being robbed of Religious Freedom... in the real world, it's come close a few times. It's a shame one has to fight to hold on to something that so many others in the Mainstream Religions take for granted... a Right that is supposed to be for all people... not just the majority. =)

I am Algonquin. Little is known about the people because religious intolerance has distroyed the history and culture of my bloodline, and tried to re-write it.
Being robbed of my personal freedoms happens on a daily basis when a person wears a pentagram around their neck in our society. I find that people either avoid me like the plague, or attack me with their own personal religious beliefs.
Tolerance requires truth, truth in history, responsability and the down right facts that all too many religions actually give people a free ticket to hate those who believe differently!
When the religious fundies STOP killing people for their beliefs and attempting to wipe out all other spiritual beliefs other than their own...THEN I will tolerate them. But the "religious right" who choose to HATE the rest of us...well...I don't believe we should tolerate them... it is a form of inabling!
We must not tolerate HATE in todays society...at any level!

Your first statement reminded me of what I always say, you can’t argue with a closed mind. I think that people get frustrated with each other over religion because each expects the other to be rational and accept their beliefs. I finally decided that trying to debate with Christians in particular is pointless because you can’t argue the supernatural as it cannot be proved or verified. I totally don’t mean to disrespect Christians, but it is true. My personal frustration is that I wish they could just glimpse the whole picture without focusing on just a small piece.
Someone can oppress you only if you let him. I don’t feel oppressed; but I do worry that the influence of Christianity on our government is getting entirely too bold and out of control. I do try to practice patience and tolerance with my fellow humans; but sometimes I do get frustrated. At that point I just vent in a blog and I feel better, lol.
I joined the forum because religion, sociology, and psychology are 3 of my favorite topics to research. Humans are fascinating creatures. I do find it very interesting to hear about other people’s religious experiences and the reasons for their beliefs. The similarities of most religions to one another are astounding which leads me to believe that there is one source for them all. I’m not here to argue. I’m just here to learn. :) Thanks!

I do have religious tolerance. I think that Religious Freedom Means ALL Religions and even Non-Religious viewpoints.
I have my strong beliefs and I expect others to have their own beliefs.
My intolerance is when someone that has beliefs other than my own and they insist that their way is the only way and they try to convert me or condemn me to Hell.
I just don't understand why we can't Coexist.

Tolerance...what a virtue to have grasped during a lifetime...one that truly excels the spirit within...an honorable quest you are embarking upon, Hon.
However, most religious dogma are a stifling power on this Earth place...they do kill, they do imprison, & their tortures are of the most inhumane...they play on human need, on their hearts, & their minds...a control faction greater than any government system. No blame or judgment here, just a fact of life.
On the pro side, they provide people the opportunity to experience of them & create with their gift of free-will choice...they either ring another's soul chimes, or stifles them...just as every event of every moment during a lifetime.
When taking on your quest, do not negate the duality...they work together...both sides serve purpose. And do not attach yourself to either...they are only of this realm, not our true reality. A wise choice would be to state of Self, and let other's think...give them food for thought & leave them to eat as they choose...it is the purpose of their "being" here to begin with.
Love them all, because at Home each & every one is part of the Whole...See???
Good Journey!!!

I WILL NOT 'tolerate' somebody threatening me because I don't believe in their religion, nor will I tolerate any attempts to get one's religious restrictions codified into laws that *I* am compelled to follow. I think any reasonable person would take being told that they're going to burn in incomprehensible torment for eternity as a threat.

How many times does a christian or muslim etc get a knock on the door only to find a pagan spreading the word of spirit, never because we keep ourselves to ourselves, intolerance works both ways, you have the right to believe in what you wish, you do not have the right to express your views as the only true way as there is not one iota of truth to back up your beliefs, thus we move onto faith,my beliefs stem from life experiences, cultural exchange and mutual respect and love of mother nature and all her gifts. When someone consigns me to hell for not being a christian and starts quoting from an unproven book or source this makes ones hackles rise up and retaliation is swift to countenance their insult upon me and my beliefs,I answer in kind, some of the christians replies are kind and considerate and I thank them for it,some become condescending and fanatical in their appraisal of others,so once again the circle carries on and intolerance resurfaces,
How many cultures(the mayans for example) were destroyed because of greed and the need to conquer other peoples, they had so much information on the history of the planet but due to being scribed on gold were melted down and consigned to catholic churches.
In the UK we know nothing of our spiritual background because pagans/heathens were systematically berated for their beliefs and subsequently no longer allowed on pain of death to follow their heritage and beliefs.

People have tried to kill me because of their religious beliefs and briefly robbed me of my freedom because of them.
I am not here to preach anything, but I dont have tolerance for people who are not open minded enough to admit that they may be wrong

Because in the real world we can be hurt. And yes, people do get hurt or robbed or freedom over religion. At least here we can say what we feel and believe with out the back lash we would get in the "real world".
