then why are you here? i think everyone here in some fashion is trying to prove their point, regardless of what it may be about religion and spirituality. and everyone is welcome to their own opinion. that being said, why would anyone report another person's questions or answers simply because you don't like the point that person is trying to get across. is your ability to debate that weak that you can't come up with a clever response that you actually have time to think about? if so, i'd love to meet you on the street one day and see how you handle yourself in a verbal discussion on religion. that would be a hoot!!!

julian, when i have i ever said anything about human beings being infalliable? quite the opposite. that's why i don't believe people from 2000 years ago who claim they met god and wrote about it in a book of contradictions you call the bible.

and furthermore, where did you get the idea that atheists don't believe they have a mind? must you get all your information from answers in genesis?

Well told! I couldn't agree with you more. There are times when I definately see why something or someone would get reported: Character destruction of another user, insults, or just plain hateful ignorant comments full of bigotry... you know the stuff. But most of what gets reported (speaking of my own material, of course) are merely differing opinions. Or they use references that disprove a given statement used by the asker. Most of the time I just have hate mail and thumbs-downs... but those reporter get me once in a while, and it nearly always mystifies me as to why.

Intellectual arguments are interesting, but this site has been reduced to childhood immaturity.
Hearing fifty people say God exists,
or fifty people saying God doesn't exist
Is not an argument!
As many times as I've seen you on here, I can't remember a single thing that you've said other than point out the fact that human beings are infalliable. If you come on here to argue, what exactly is your point that you are getting at? I'm all for having a discussion, but I'm just at a loss as to what we are actually talking about?
Aliens? Santa Clause? 2000 year old religious scriptures? God?
Here's my argument and my proof for it, please disprove at your own convienience.
Perfection is found in the mind. Nowhere else. My proof? Things are corruptible, time is fleeting, and even the universe has its flaws. Only the mind is capable of producing a thought of perfection.
However, since most "atheists" don't believe they have a mind, I guess it'll just have to be my opinion that I"m perfect and you're not.

I came here to answer people's questions and do what I could to help them. People come here with a lot of issues and concerns, as well as wanting to debate religion. I figure 54 long hard years of living have given me a little bit of perspective on things, and if I can use some of that experience to benefit someone else, it's been worth it.
As far as fighting and arguing, I've got a Master's Degree in English -- I got all the debating I ever wanted or needed in college. Enough to last a lifetime, in fact.
I also learned that if you have to resort to personal insults in a debate, you didn't have much of an argument to begin with. If I don't like someone's questions or answers, I move on to the next one. Simple as that.

As for me,I definitely dont come here to argue. and as difficult as it is sometimes to read hateful things, or things that dont coincide with my beliefs. I know I need how other people feel.I feel that if we ALL could just stop for a second & ask ourselves" do I think that this might offend or disrespect some1" ( and ask ourselves honestly!) & if you still feel strongly about it, then by all means write it. None of us, will always agree but i just feel that we shouldnt go out our way 2 piss some1 off. Lets save the arguing 4 something that can really make a difference, such as starving children, homeless people, AIDS... I mean non- believers care about those kinds of issues 2 RIGHT?

I suppose I have a different definition of "argue" than you. Trying to prove your point would, I suppose, be one way to describe it, but "being argumentative" means something more to me.
I agree that is is very wrong to report a question or answer just because you don't agree with it. It should be reported only if it is a CLEAR violation of the Community Guidelines. Otherwise, it makes more sense to answer, perhaps starting with "Well, I was tempted to report this but . . ."
But I do indeed come here to make points (pun intended), and also to learn, to share, to offer the benefit of my 60 years of experience to young people who might avoid making some of the same dumb mistakes as a result.

I came here to argue.
I came here to learn some things and I learn best through debate. I managed to anger some people but they are just too sensitive.
I would never report someone though. I would never cut someone off in the middle of a heated discussion.
If we discussed religion in the street you would laugh at me. I get all animated and my voice gets louder. Its better to discuss religion in private or on the internet where the volume of my voice does not bother anyone.

Debate-maybe, argue-no. I have to agree with your point though, reporting people for expressing different opinions than yours in a public forum is silly and I don't see why yahoo even deletes questions like that (the ones that aren't abusive I mean). I don't think I've reported any questions in R&S, I have reported racist trolls in Culture and Society from time to time.

I'm not here to argue or debate, I'm here to answer questions the best way I can, according to what I think the answer is. Sometimes my answers don't agree with the beliefs of certain people.

Actually the one person I've reported was making fun of the people who died in the San Diego fires. But maybe that was just their opinion in your view.

I'm interested in people's views, differences and responses. I love how we are all different. Makes life interesting. Besides, I'm not working now and like sharpening my mind with a virtual community.
