Rupal, sad but he is going to have to learn this valuable life lesson on his own. You can suggest to him that others don't care about his finances or about talking about how much of a miser he is but he has to find out on his own I'm afraid. Also sad that this would affect you and others also. Best of luck and hopefully soon he will learn to enjoy his cash rather than objectify it.

Gentleness, compassion and love can slowly turn him around. Be patient with him and try to explain his shortcomings to him and suggest possible ways to overcome them. Never try to push through. The results will be undesirable. On your part, try to be a more liberal spender than your husband, so that you are not labelled Aunt Scrooge.
These being essentially behavioural problems instilled deep in the psyche can only be solved through patient psychotherapic techniques.
