Not a mistake, fjpoblam. The instructions say "Purchase a USB cable separately if not incuded".

Everyone I've ever bought one it has not had the USB cable included with the scanner or printer and it says on the side of the box.

Not likely, just a mistake. I've had nothing but the best from HP. (In fact, I have a box of extra cables collected over the years, I'd be glad to send you a cable to get rid of one! But that's neither here nor there.)

If you want to go to the effort, just go to an online chat with HP and explain (be prepared with your serial number and info about your purchase place) and they'll likely ship a cable toot sweet. Else go to the place of purchase and see what happens.

I just bought a Canon scanner and copier it didn't come with one either but the sales guy told me before I bought it. The person who sold it to you should have said something!!!!! Isn't that stupid that it doesn't come with one though !! Just another way for them to make more money off the consumer!!

I think just about all printer/scanners etc are the same.
Had the same experience with Samsung and HP last month.

Sorry, this is standard. It should say on the outside of the box, though, so next time at least you can save yourself the trip back to the shop.
