My bf just got fired last night because he input a customer check twice on 2 separate occasions. He workd for Movie Gallery. They trained him to be a SCSA (Senior Customer Service Associate) which is basically a MOD (Manager On Duty). He would take care of all the paperwork @ night before he closed the store. According to him when they do the training for it, it's bascially a teach yourself type thing. They don't really do much hands on/example training. Well I guess there was a couple of times @ 2 separate stores that he input a customer check twice and didn't catch it when he went to do paperwork @ the end of the night. I guess it went all the way up to corporate level in paperwork troubles, but I still don't see why they would fire him over that.

What do you think? If you are an employer what would you do and why?

I think they could have at least let him keep his job, just maybe bumped him down to a CSA and not let him close the store or do any paperwork.

Well if you where the customer, who's bank account got hit twice how would you feel. That leaves them open to legal ramifications, One mistake is one thing multiple of the same at this level is inexcusable. The fact is he has become a liability to the company, and one they cannot afford to take.

Theres alot that can be said about this but to be even handed with both the business and your bf I'll say this. It depends on the managerial philosophy that business practices. Most small non-unionized businesses practice this type of short sighted discipline like the one you just described. Whether true or almost true this is because according to your post theres not much investment at stake with an individual like your bf, meaning there was not much training involved. Progressive discipline is the best, fairest and most enlightened aproach to correct mistakes of slight like this.

Well, that is a trick embezzlers use. Maybe they've noticed money missing and they think he took it. Or, maybe their accounting person is really insecure. If he really honestly didn't do anything wrong, he may be a scapegoat. If that's the case, it's good he doesn't have to mix with those people anymore.

If he wrote a report the way you just wrote that explaination, I'd fire him in a heart beat.

That sounds a little severe. Dang, we're only human.
