Well, I think the drug side has been pretty well covered.
Depression: anger turned inward. Depression, unless completely organic (physically based, brain, body, etc.), is most often from deep-rooted unforgiveness, resentment and/or disappointment. The first thing you need to do is figure out what's eating at you, which you probably already know, and deal with it.
Forgiveness is your best friend right now, forgive others, forgive yourself and forgive God (you wouldn't believe how often people blame God and don't know it).
Depression is emotional nausea, it's your emotions way of telling you that you have poison in your system. And, forgiveness is how you get rid of it.
If you want resources on the subject feel free to e-mail me, I know of some very helpful books you can read to go more into depth.

You leave a lot out of your question but the obvious answer is go see your doctor and be firm with him/her that you are not yet responding in the manner you would wish.
If you have only been on medication for less then 4 to 6 weeks, be patient, it takes time for the medications to work. You may need a change of dosage or type of medication,. A change in your lifestyle is almost always needed with depression. It is easy to get so far enmeshed in depression you don't realize you are isolated. Call the doctor, get up and do anything to change your view.
Find a friend or counselor you can rely on in the mean time to help you stay focused on your recovery.
Good luck!

You isolate the symtoms that aren't depression. If there aren't any or only a few, it's depression. Next time you see your doctor/psychiatrist tell them about the extra things then they can tell you whether they are worth looking at.
Anti-depressants don't work for everyone and should be taken with extra support in the form of counselling or some form of psychotherapy. You should be talking to a professional as well as taking the meds.
I'm with you in the feeling like there's no hope. Email me if you wanna talk, violentvictim@yahoo.co.uk

It would be pretty hard to have taken every antidepressant and not find one that helps. Sometimes combinations can be used.
Clinical psychologists can be very good at talk therapy as well as giving you specific assignments and behaviors to practice to help with depression.
For severe depression for which nothing else works, I have seen ECT (so-called "shock treatment") work wonders. I have seen it pull people out of the worst suicidal depressions you can imagine. It is expensive, though, and requires six to nine sessions and anesthesia.

I have the same problem. I still even cut myself. And I garentuee half the people answering these questions havent been through it so they dont know what they are saying either. Alll I know is the only thing that seems to "lift me" from the depression is daily companionship and councelling here and there. Meds is not enough. Support is the most important. So is having someone around who understand you but will not judge you or bring you down. I KNOW HOW U FEEL!!!!!!!

Lots of times depression and anxiety go hand in hand.
Sometimes your anti-depressant unmasks the anxiety.
Lots of people with depression are on a combination of meds.
You shoudln't have to feel bad - you really need to talk to your doctor and see if you can find a combination of meds to effectively treat how you feel.

You described just how I have been. Please stick with finding one that will help. There are new ones that come out off and on. I know how hard it is to keep going.
I hope you see a psychiatrist and counselor.
If not - DO!!!
Be honest with them how stuff is going.
When Cymbalta came out, it was a gift from God for me. I still have the question in the back of my head, when will it stop working. Try to not think that.
Hang in there!!!

First of all you really need professional help, not advise from Yahoo Answers.
If your present care taker isn't making progress for you, then consider changing Doctors. But don't solicite information from novices, get professional advice.
It sounds to me like you need help, and that you want help as well. Get quality help.
Good luck

When you say antidepressants do you mean SSRIs? Doctors have routinely overprescribed me SSRIs and they don't work for me.The side effects had me even more depressed.
I have anxiety as well and the anti-anxiety medicines do work for me. But I've had problems finding a doctor to prescribe them to me because of a**holes out there who abuse them.

Accepting and not minding the depression is a way to transcend it. At the least, you will experience peace under it.
