Because Christians like slavery. If it was up to them, it would still be legal to own slaves in the southern states of the USA. Many Christians during the time before the Civil War defended slavery by using the Bible.

One must recognize, from the beginning of any such discussion, that slavery, as defined and practically executed under biblical law is very different from the slavery suffered by Africans in 19th America and other cases of slavery.

There are 3 general classes of biblical servitude (the word used is most correctly translated as servant rather than slave).
First is an indentured servant who serves for up to six years. This occurs when either the servant is poor and needs to ensure his livelihood or when a person has stolen or caused other damage and is unable to pay restitution. The second is the case of a minor female servant. She is 'sold' by her father for the main purpose of her eventually marrying into a more financially successful family. The girl has the right to refuse the marriage before she turns 12 1/2 years of age. The final class is a captive servant, ie a person captured in a war or sold in the slave markets. They have no real rights nor have any way of extricating themselves.

In all these cases, however, the biblical treatment of such individuals is much different and better than one might think. The laws governing the ownership of 'slaves' is very rigorous and exacting...requiring an owner to see to the upkeep and basic comfort of his slaves even before his own or his families. Further, an owner cannot beat his slave causing permanent injury (even as minor as knocking out a tooth)...for in such a case, the slave goes free.

There are many other laws regarding the keeping of slaves. It is not a requirement to have them, but if one chooses to, and it's permitted by the host nation, then one must do so to the ultimate benefit of the servant.

Bible is no longer the scripture send down by GOD.

So Bible doesnt states Slavery is Ok,
Priest & People in Power have changed it for there benifits.

Now let us look at Exodus 21:20-21 "If a man beats his male or female slave with a rod and the slave dies as a direct result, he must be punished, but he is not to be punished if the slave gets up after a day or two, since the slave is his property." Notice how the Bible doesn't recognize the slave male or female as a normal human being. If the master beats his servant to death, then the master will not get the death punishment or penalty. He will only be punished, but not to death. This punishment mighty be even a light one such as a single light whip since the punishment was not determined.

Exodus 23:12 "Six days do your work, but on the seventh day do not work, so that your ox and your donkey may rest and the slave born in your household, and the alien as well, may be refreshed." We can obviously see from this verse that the slave and the animal have the same value. A human slave in the Bible is an animal and not a human being. This verse puts the animals and the slave in the same category. It doesn't separate them.

Leviticus 25:44-46 "Your male and female slaves are to come from the nations around you; from them you may buy slaves. You may also buy some of the temporary residents living among you and members of their clans born in your country, and they will become your property. You can will them to your children as inherited property and can make them slaves for life, but you must not rule over your fellow Israelites ruthlessly."

What kind of a human value does the Bible give to slaves? If slaves and their children must be inherited and passed down to newer generations as slaves, then how in the world will they ever gain their freedom?? Does the Bible believe in Freedom? Does the Bible believe in liberating human beings from slavery? Apparently it does not !!!.

One thing that Jews and Christians have yet to prove is the validity of the books and gospels of the Bible. The Bible is full of historical corruptions. Indeed, man-made cultural laws had entered the bible and turned it into a big lie. So to take the above verses and the books of the bible as The True Living Words of GOD Almighty when they are nothing but doubtful man-made hoax is indeed A CRIME AGAINST GOD AND HIS REVELATIONS.

Check This...........

The Jewish scribes had very badly corrupted the Bible and turned it into a big lie. That is why GOD Almighty said:

"`How can you say, "We [the Jews] are wise, for we have the law of the LORD," when actually the lying pen of the scribes has handled it falsely?' (From the NIV Bible, Jeremiah 8:8)"

"How can you say, 'We are wise, and the law of the LORD is with us'? But, behold, the false pen of the scribes has made it into a lie. (From the RSV Bible, Jeremiah 8:8)"

It's quite obvious that the Bible is more like a man made cultural book than a divine book that is meant to be for all times and all places. Anyway, the Bible was not even written by its original authors. That is why you see things such as "And Moses went up to the mountain...." instead of "And I [Moses] went up to the mountain....", or "And Jesus said to Matthew...." instead of "And Jesus said to me [Matthew]...." Most of the Books and Gospels of the Bible were written by third party people that were not even chosen by GOD, which makes the Bible just a cultural history book rather than a divine book from GOD Almighty.

Conclusion:

The Bible in both the Old Testament and the New Testament doesn't recognize slaves as human beings. The Bible also in both the Old and the New Testaments encourages slavery and enslaving people. It doesn't encourage nor command Christians to fight for others' rights and to liberate them from slavery. Instead, the Bible repeatedly talks about slaves as worthless sub humans and animals who must not gain their freedom unless they convert to Christianity.

No it wasn't. Good question until you added that crap in there.

Slavery was only ok for a certain amount of time and the slaves were treated VERY well. Just look at Philemon for a New Testament version of slaves. Slavery is not where someone is worked to the bone all the time and oppressed to no end.
Slavery is basically a normal job. In Israel, if followed according to God's law, the slaves were treated like family. They may have had the title of slave, but they were paid, fed and housed. They worked normal hours. Slavery in modern times is a result of sick ambition and greed. Those are not in God's plan.

The Bible promotes freedom not slavery. If it wasn't for the great Christian William Wilberforce, who knows where we would be today.

Slavery in the Bible from the Jewish point of view is not what you think of slavery. A free man is free to have his own business, but when he is in debt and can not pay off his bills, he became a "slave" to the one to whom he owed his bills. But this was one of a man who WORKED for man just like you work for an employer. In essence just like you work for a company, (unless you are truly free and own your own business) you are the companies slave. This is what Biblical slavery in the Jewish culture. Even so, after 7 years of service, the slaves debts are forgiven and is released.

This is unlike pagan slavery, where the slave is considered less than human and is considered just "goods". This is still going on today in many Islamic countries.

If the Bible says it, it must be true. The world is 6000 years old. Forget your geology. Forget biology, Darwin was wrong. Laws against slavery are against the Bible. Don't eat pork, don't wear mixed fabrics, lock women outside the gates of the city during their unclean times. Where are the gates of the city by the way? No shell fish. Drink wine. No, don't drink wine. Its all in there. Get rid of your car and get an azz. Move to Israel. Smite the non believers. Burn an ox for God.

What's to say 2000 years ago the meaning of the word "slave" was different from today's meaning?
"Slaves" back then were treated differently than the slaves of today. Slaves back then were basically people who worked for a living. So according to the Bible's meaning of the word, whoever has a job today is considered a slave.

I would like you to point out to me where in the Bible that slavery was supported and said to be o.k. The Bible talk about how we aught to treat our servants. Colossians 4:1 "Masters, render unto your servants that which is just and equal, knowing also that you have a Master which is in Heaven." and in Colossians 3:22 it talked about servants obeying your masters, because it is just......and the list goes on.
