Also if you know and have studied this ratio, please make a list of everything that has PHI in it.

Such as:

Top of the head to the belly button is "1" and the belly button to the foot is 1.618.

Beauty is relative to being well proportioned. The more beautiful you are, the more this ratio is evident within you. I believe God used this ratio as a tool or a guide to creation. I also believe that God instilled in us, the ability to see beauty, and to see it as good, because, he wanted us to notice the beauty in His creation (nature), and to see it as good.

Punch: You said, "There are laws in nature."

My point is, how can you reason that these laws just "came about" instead of being created? Please explain.

punch: You state that almost everything in nature has this ratio, I agree with you.

Can you give me a small list of things you know that have this ratio. I'm just curious what you have. Thanks.

Lady: Thank you for that information you gave me about the PhiBar. I didn't know it was in wavelengths.

Magic Mim: Beauty is someone subjective, however not COMPLETELY subjective. There is a set guide that everyone to a degree believes in. Such as, 98% of people believe people with big noses/weight problems/big ears etc... are unattractive.

IT does not prove there is a creator whatsoever. All it proves is that people like to look for patterns. Why pick the belly button as your point to partition the body? Also, that is not true for everyone. Women tend to have longer legs to bodies, while men have longer bodies to legs.

Humans love to sort things out into neat groups. There are many more things that do not fit this ratio that are simply ignored by those who say this is evidence of a creator.

Anyhow, beauty is always in the eye of the beholder.

Edit - The beauty bit is irrelevant. Why choose the bellybutton for your point? The only true answer is because it works. My main point is that people tend to love to find patterns. It is one of the reasons we are such a clever race.

I'd also like to point out that I am in no way saying that what I've said disproves there is a creator, because it doesn't.

Wow, that's interesting....I never knew about PHI but I'm going to look into in more depth....

"Michael Semprevivo has introduced a concept called the PhiBar, which applies phi relationships to frequencies, or wavelengths, in the spectrum of visible colors in light. Colors in the spectrum that are related by distances based on phi or the golden section produce very rich and visually appealing combinations.

Using the PhiBar program [at http://goldennumber.net/color.htm] J.D. Ahmanson discovered that it produces the colors that the Bible says God gave to Moses for the construction of the Tabernacle. As it says in Exodus 26:1, "Make the tabernacle with ten curtains of finely twisted linen and blue, purple and scarlet yarn, with cherubim worked into them by a skilled craftsman." This reference to the combination blue, purple and scarlet in the construction of the tabernacle appears 26 times in Exodus 25 through 39, describing the colors to be used in the curtains, waistbands, breastpieces, sashes and garments.

Yes, almost everything is nature has this ratio. Why can it not be nature? The most efficient way of growth? How does it prove god or why? It doesn't. There are laws in nature. They are not necessarily laws of god, but laws of life.
The way leaves grow on a branch follow this ratio. The way a snails or a nautilus shell grows follow this ratio, How can you reason that these laws were created and not just natural? The petals of flowers follow this ratio......

Are you familiar with "The Straight Dope" it is a syndicated question and answer newspaper column. Here is Cecil Adams's response. To summarize, it is interesting but not super natural. Did you just finish The Da Vinci Code? It was a page turner, wasn't it?
