It doesn't really matter where you wear it, AS LONG AS YOU DO. That is the main thing, Soldiers past and present won't look at you in a bad light by wearing it on the wrong side. Just wear it with pride and remember. Remembrance and the poppy is a real big thing for a soldier.
Every year without fail when they read the list of those who have fallen within my corps then play the last post i have a tears in my eyes. I am a grown Man with two children but will never forget those who have fallen. Thanks to them all, past and most recent.
Soldiers always wear theirs on their cap badge or on their left brest above the heart. (Quite fitting really)

I am a Brit in the USA and I wear mine every year, without fail the Americans have little to no clue what they stand for, makes you wonder just how much they would raise for the American Legion if they adopted the making and selling of them over here.
But to answer your question I always put mine on the right hand side, more as it is less in the way that side.
regards and still NOT forgetting no matter where I am.

The Poppy appeal is one of the most deserving causes there is in the UK and as an ex member of the Royal Navy will always wear mine with pride, even in the US.
Thank you for supporting my fellow ex servicemen and women who are in need of help.

Men usually wear them on the left, as with a carnation at a wedding. Women wear corsages on the right, so I suppose you would wear your poppy on the right.
Whatever side wear it with pride in rememberance of our brave lads and lasses that gave their all for our country.

Traditionally, it's left for men, right for women.
Mind you, I never wear one, because they always look tatty on me after five minutes - I just give 'em the money and tell 'em to sell the poppy again.

I certainly would never mind which side you wear your poppy. Just by wearing it any way you are a credit to your country and the people that gave their lives for it.
Their names shall live for evermore.

Men on the left, women on the right - the side the buttonholes are on.
(PS I was going to ask this question myself but then I found the answer via google and spotted your question at the same time.)
