My neighbor goes to a tanning booth, and she says they are having a free afternoon for 1 session for any member who brings a guest. She told me about it and said to me...'I cannot think of anyone else who needs some color more than you!'
I told her I was not interested...but later was trying to think of a good comeback if she says something like that again.Any ideas?

I am very pale - I get comments like this all the time. I've been insulted my whole life with nicknames like ghost, whitey, milk, powder, moon tan - you name it. The best comeback I've figured out and use all the time is just to first crack a small joke like "I don't like the beach and I would be cold on the surface of the sun" and then just mention how I'd rather be healthy and wrinkle free than have to deal with skin cancer and premature aging. For the most part, it shuts people up and they don't bother me again about it.

damn i know how you feel. i have pale Irish skin and I've had rude people point that out like it's a problem that i need to fix all my life. Next time you can just say "no thanks, i'm love the color my skin is now" it's not overly rude but it gets the point across that there is nothing wrong with the color of your skin and for her to assume that you'd want to be any other color is absurd. I actually had a guy at my work say to me "hey there's a new invention called the sun!" i was a teenager then and it upset me a lot but now i know he was just a complete @ss.

Well anythings better than being in the regiments of Mrs Orange Lady. You don't need a come back. You just need to know that sun beds are not wise and do people no good. Just get some natural sun light. And leave the Mrs orange lady to her premature ageing process.
Mind you thinking about it. She was being nice in her way. She obviously thought you would benefit from it, and thinks it's healthy.

Yes, it was nice of her to offer you to come along to have a tanning session for free but also it was wrong of her to say what she did to you, I'ms sure people say stuff that one might find offending, in that case she probably didn't even think that what she said might offend you. Although, i myself would have been offended in that situation too..infact I dont even think tanning is good for as naturally because it can be a cause of skin cancer, but you'll find that most people do it to make themself look good, saying it make me look health with a glow, but personally I always think they do it out of sheer vanity. You are beautiful as you are in your own natural colour and skin..and dont let others get to you.
Peace x
p.s..hope you dont mind me saying this..but i took a look at your 360..you are very attractive too...nice clear blue eyes.

How was her tone when she mentioned that to you? Was there sarcasm in it? If there was sarcasm, I would simply ask them what their problem was. It doesn't make you any bigger a person to be rude right back. You're a better person to let it roll off your shoulders.
Perhaps she didn't mean for it to come out rude like that. What sort of relationship to you have with her? Some people say things and they don't think about the way they come out, or the effect they have on people. There is a chance she wasn't trying to be mean.
Keep in mind too, that this is you according to her.. Who is she? Who cares what she thinks!!

SHe may not have meant it in a nasty way - some people are just born to spend their lives with their foot in their mouth! She's probably just a little bit tactless, and won't have realised that she upset you.
If she says something like that again, try a comeback that takes the p*ss out of her a little in a jokey, friendly way...

When she gets back from the tanning studio, tell her that she looks like the dude from the Tango advert!

You should of gone ok and gone with her and locked her in the tanning booth. She would then get a tan!!!

"Really, have you been looking at me that much? That makes me uncomfortable, so no thanks.. I'll pass on your offer."
A slug has more class than your neighbor. And she's a fool for going to tanning booths.

Tell her that you have a free offer for a "personality booth" - would she like to use it. OR offer her a two for one cancer screening.
