I'm not a Christian, but I'm going to throw out a definition anyway: Charity is doing beneficial things for people whom one does not know that do not externally benefit one's self. The lack of external benefits means that it's not charity if I donate money to a cause because I want praise or reward.

1Cr 13:3 And though I bestow all my goods to feed [the poor], and though I give my body to be burned, and have not charity, it profiteth me nothing.

This script shows that charity is not the giving of goods ? as many suppose. So charity must be the giving of the sacrifice of Jesus' testimony?

Charity is loving someone and doing something about it. It is love in action.

Tangible acts of goodwill towards others, especially those poorer (in any way) than yourself. When my father died, many people consoled me and gave my family and myself food to eat. That's charity.

To give things that you, yourself wants and needs, and not call it charity, but the desire to please God and to show others the love for them in your heart.

What you give to needy out of love for God so God is pleased with you. This giving with belief in God gets you in heaven.

If you give charity with out belief in God you give it to be known as big hearted philanthrapists, and to be respected in this world.

You do get name recognition and respect in this world but you get no recognition in the hearafter unless you give in the name of God because it is He who gives you the extra wealth besides your basic needs.

Not giving in the name of God is unthankfullness and that goes against you. God doesn't thankless and arrogant people.

Giving unconditionally to those in need.

When I was in my early 20's a relative let me live with them for free while I went to school.
