Many going with "it is finished" in John 19:6 seem to miss what James 1:15 says about "it is finished": it brings death.

John 17: first "finished" = win (human race)
John 19: second "finished" = "place"

Give "place" to devil?

Give "place" to death?

What do you think was finished? Not Christ, but that phase of His ministry...and the Resurrection was proof. Satan was defeated. So that all who accept Him as their Savior can be saved....

I agree, an all knowing, all powerful, and all loving god would not let his son die. Jesus didn't need to die for our sins, an all powerful god can forgive us, no death is needed. It's a badly written story that is full of contradictions. The Keepers' answer (the answer above mine) may sound convincing, but, it's actually flawed. He said: "the reason God could not save us with the snap of his fingers is that he gave us the agency to act for ourselves and make our own decisions. For him to force salvation on all of us would take away our right to make choices, and my guess is that you would rather make your own decisions and not have your every decision made for you." If that is true, then god would ask us: "Do you want to come and live with me in heaven; a perfect and all loving place for the rest of eternity, or, do you want to stay here?" If god did that, which he would if The Keepers' story made any sense, then no ones free will would be violated.

John 3:16 For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life. 17 For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through Him might be saved.
18 “He who believes in Him is not condemned; but he who does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God. 19 And this is the condemnation, that the light has come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil. 20 For everyone practicing evil hates the light and does not come to the light, lest his deeds should be exposed. 21 But he who does the truth comes to the light, that his deeds may be clearly seen, that they have been done in God.”

I really don't understand how you're getting what you got out of James, but this passage makes it pretty plain.

God send Jesus to die for us so that we may live. And by way of having faith in Jesus ,we gain life from his father ,who is God .Satan is the bearer of death. Adam and Eve were created not to die. But when Eve fell prey to Satan death was the penality for defying God.Only by way of the son of God do we gain life. Read john 3:16

Thus you prove the problem with taking verses out of context and nit-picking at them.

Christ came to bring us life and conquer death. Read ALL of John and consider the whole, cohesive message.
