Doesn't matter who wrote it but why adhere something that is not verifiably true? Doesn't that make us look weak in the face of scholarly criticism?

Actually we know the Apostles did not write the Gospels. They are the "Gospel according to....Mark, Matthew, etc." They were penned by others but written as it was told by the Apostles.

Faith is why we believe. These texts have been given to us by the early Christians. They have been determined by many scholars and theologians to be the inspired Word of God.

There is also the element of historical authenticity that is accepted. Scholars and historians (even if not religious) agree that these ancient texts are factual and historical evidence.

None of the disciples wrote anything that still exists today.

That's kind of like asking if Shakespeare wrote his great stories; we didn't SEE him do it, but we know he did. Do we just believe he did because of 'tradition'?
