Mine is missing off the front and if it's not illegal in CT to have no license plate on the front of the car then I won't bother, does anyone know?

Common sense should tell you that the state of Connecticut would not go to the expense of manufacturing and issuing 2 license plates if they were not required. Just go to your local DMV and get a replacement. Expect to pay a modest fee for this service (the DMV doesn't do any thing for free).

You don't have to have a front plate in any state I've ever lived in (TN, AL, GA) and if some one stole it with intentions of putting it on their own car, then they should be pretty easy to track down. I'd contact the CT DMV.

If you were given two plates when you registered your car then yes, you need a plate in the front. You will get pulled over & given a ticket

If your state requires and issues two plates...

the key word is requires.

Only 19 states out of 50 DON'T require a front plate, and yes, they ticket if it's required and not there.

It depends on the state the car is registered in. Our state requires both plates be on. Check with your department of motor vehicle registration, they'll let you know. I know if we lose one, we can just order a replacement for a fee of course

Report it to the police and apply for a replacement. Even if it cost you money it's better than a visit from the police about your tag number involved in a crime or 50 parking tickets.

If you're given two when you get your plates, then its quite likely two are required. Basically you're going to gamble on whether or not a cop wants to be an asshole on any particular day.
