question should be....do all of the Christians or bible following people from any sub group...apply the teaching in their daily lives. You are asking the easy part. Anyone can go and sit for couple of hours in church. Reading is not hard either....

You don't need a book to pray. You have the essence in you. You already know what to pray for and what to pray about. The body is a temple! But actually when you read the bible you are in fact putting your mind to work for god by reading the word and this I believe is a part of prayer. When you are done studying god has to let us think about these things that we've studied deeply, so that is a form of meditation and a form of prayer..So In a way I would say it goes hand in hand. Although, we have to take in mind that some of the scriptures have been tampred with and we have to be able to decipher what is what,,through studying and meditation/prayer, you will know what is what. God says his people are destroyed from a lack of knowledge, so I believe he wants us to learn and meditate/pray/contemplate as much as possible. If all of the bibles and words in them are lost, then we still have our essense, which tells us what is right and wrong and as well as our power to pray. God lives within us and shows us the way, even when we don't have the istructions. His feet are always in the sand..

God must be FIRST In your life. Then your family and then your calling.
By reading your Bible and through prayer Is how you communicate with God and know His will & standards.
Would you try to make a cake without a recipe,Instructions or better yet without an oven or electricity ?? You can't perform any of these things without all the right Ingredients.

It's very important! According to scripture: "Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth." As a new convert it's recommended to read the Gospels, Matthew, Mark, Luke and John then the Book of Acts. How our Brother walk upon the Earth as an example how we should walk. Being Christ like is not a RELIGION. In religion what man has lay-ed his life down for mankind?

Both prayer and study of the Word are basic. Prayer is the life blood of the church; if the people don't pray, the heart of the congregation stops beating.
There's a difference between reciting prayers and really communicating with God on an intimate personal level (listening as well as talking); there's a fundamental difference between just "reading" your chapter a day of the Bible and really studying it, digging into it, asking yourself what you can learn from it and making notes.
I always ask myself this sort of question:
What does this say about God/Jesus?
What does it say about me?
What must I do or not do? (look for imperative verb forms)
What will God do or not do, if I do my part?
How can I apply this to my daily life?
Too many people think that sitting in church on Sunday, or even watching "Christian" TV or listening to the radio is a valid replacement for actively cultivating their relationship with Christ. If you don't know the Word, a preacher can lie to you, twist the Bible and teach false doctrine, and you won't even know it.

I think that the point of the statement was that you aren't truly a Christian if you don't pray and read your Bible.
Your idea of a Christian and the true definition of a Christian... I'm sure are quite different.
A Christian is someone who is Christ-Like. It's not a religion... it's a relationship. People have to remember that. God's word is something that brings us closer to him. It shows us his will for us and his nature and personality. It shows us how he wishes for us to live and how to be prosperous and effective in this life. Prayer is speaking to God... communicating with him on a daily basis. If you don't communicate with him then he's nothing more than an acquaintance. It's not really a relationship... it's more like a social time.

Prayer and Bible reading are the way to have intimacy with God! Those are the only ways to get to know God, His Promises and wishes for us!
There is no christian life without both of them.

Oh goodness! It is our spiritual food! Without it we would be spiritually dead!
It is SOOO important! One cannot walk around this earth having never read their bible or study it, and say they "know God" -- Why did God give us His word? It is His truth! Keeps us from falling away, and teaches us all truth through His Holy Spirit! We need to be rooted in His word. For Christ is our foundation and the Bible is His WRITTEN word!

It is the most important things a true Christian can do.
This is how we stay connected to God.
Luke 18:1
And he spake a parable unto them to this end, that men ought always to pray, and not to faint;
2 Timothy 2:15
Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.
This is the only way we can know the mind of God. This is how he reveals himself to us. No one can fully understand God any other way.
It does not take long to find who has stayed connected to God. Their "fruits" will show their selves.
1 Thessalonians 5:12
And we beseech you, brethren, to know them which labour among you, and are over you in the Lord, and admonish you;

Don, you already have some awesome answers! But sadly the percentages reflect what you are stating with regard to "Christians" not wanting to spend time in daily reading, and prayer! It IS food for the soul, that without it, just as without regular food, death is imminent. When prayer was taken out of school & because we said nothing,.. those against God are busy systematically removing all Biblical references from the public eye! We have allowed a CLEAR & present message to be broadcast all over this beloved Nation: That God is not "worthy" to be in these places, and the He is unworthy to send time with, or even "fight for"!
I think that is ONE reason God chose the Israelite Nation, for they "stuck to their guns" so to speak in passing down from generation 2 generation the TRUTH that God has given them, whereas we as a Nation, have allow that TRUTH to slowly fade into the "background". The statement these days is "Tolerance not Truth! (How sad!) But we can at the very least "take heart" for God DID tell us this would be happening. But as for myself...I fight for the Gospel, everyday, and whenever God gives me the opportunity, I am in the "fray". I invite JW's & Mormons to come on over & dialogue, rather than tell them I don't want o hear their "spheale". They are a "ministry" that is coming to MY door! PTL! and I do my level best to provide them with the TRUTH! I think that ALL Christians should be doing things like that, or possibly doing things like writing to our Leaders to let them KNOW we will NOT go down without a "fight"! For our God is a MIGHTY God, and as the martyrs of old did...if need be die fighting for what I believe in, then so be it...with ALL my heart! We need to be accountable to one another, we need to encourage one another, because the DAY is approaching!
Heb 10:25 - Let us not give up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but let us encourage one another--and ALL THE MORE as you see the Day approaching.
