We are thinking about visiting New York City perhaps sometime in January, but we would love to be there when it is snowing. For those of you who live in New York, do you all get a lot of snow? My travel dates are very flexible, so if there is a particular time when you "usually" have snow (I know nobody can actually guarantee snow), please let me know. (Hubby is turning 49 in December and has never seen snow in his life). We really need to escape the heat of Florida for a week or so. Thanks

Last year we didn't get our first snow fall until Valentines Day! Sometimes we get snow as early as November--it totally varies each year.

If you wanted to come during a snowy time, I'd suggest late January/early February. But keep in mind that some years, especially the last 10 years or so, New York might not get much snow at all.

Last year I think we got about 8 inches of snow total--normally our average snowfall is 3-4 times that much. It's never a guarentee.

December last year was pretty warmer comparing to previous years and we had snow only in the middle of January so if you want to see snow don't come in December, come in January or February.
But again nobody knows for sure when you will hit.
Since you are so close to NY keep checking the weather. Sometimes they can tell if snow will come even a week before...

It's hard to tell. Some winters are snowy and some are not. We have a good blizzard once in a while but it does not happen that often. The last one dumped over 2 feet of snow here but that was a few years ago. Snow could happen anytime between November and March but there is no "usual" time.

With the crazy weather in the last few years, sometimes there is very little or no snow for most of the winter...you're MOST LIKELY to have snow during January and February.

There's no guarantee. It's snowed anywhere from late October to early May. Any time during the winter is a safe bet. But then again, it was 80 degrees here last week.

Please realize that some years it does not snow in New York City at all. But I'd say your best bet would be February. That is when it is coldest. I live in New York and find it most enjoyable at Christmas time though. I'd also recommend going then. If you really want snow, Vermont is beautiful and has lots to do in the winter.

Please do me a huge favor? Go right before Christmas. If you want a romantic Vacation and you just want to be Awed, go to NYC between thanksgiving and Christmas even maybe as far as new years to see all the decorations. Even though this year is unusually warm, it should be snowing by December. Get tickets to a show! Do your Christmas shopping there. You can get knock offs for a great bargain and no one would know the difference.

it's impossible to predict when it will snow, but if you can come here at a moment's notice, then just keep track of the weather here.

otherwise, i agree with the person who said that February is the most likely time for snow.

Spring is the best time to visit New York. From April to June or before summer. I've been there just this April. There were lots of spring sales and events. The weather is just humid. Its also nice walking around. And if you have time, and if you love shopping, you can go to Jersey which is just a 30-45 minute drive from New York. Shop til you drop cause they're not charging tax. Enjoy! :)

The weather is very tricky and can change in a New York minute. You can read the following to give you a basic idea tho.
